Just before knocking off work, she received Lin Li’s call, asking An Ran to accompany her for a meal. Her mood does not sound too good.
At first An Ran wanted to turn it down, since she recently had an agreement with Huang De Xing. However, concerning the blueprint of the government building, she hasn’t even come up with a preliminary draft, so she has been working late to catch up. But she wasn’t able to even get a word out, the Lin Li on the other line ‘Lao Fo Ye’, had already ended the conversation, so she didn’t even hear her decline. Ultimately, An Ran’s refusal was left in her stomach.
After Lin Li had graduated university she directly went to work at a family estate business as a sales representative. She normally doesn’t have any passion nor any demands, plus Cheng Xiang’s income was quite good. As far as work is concerned, Lin Li never has it in her mind, so she has been working at that company for six years. Although they had entered work at the same time she has already become the section manager now, her alone, is still a minor sales floor employee, usually her performance hits sufficiency for each month’s goal. [T/N: as in she just hits the goal, no more no less. Brain fart, can’t think of a good paraphrase haha.]
When An Ran knocked off work she received Lin Li’s text, saying that she’s already downstairs, which made her rush down. An Ran doesn’t know what had happened, but she guesses that she had an argument with Cheng Xiang. However guessing from Lin Li’s mood right now, the matter seems to be a lot more serious than she thought. Assuming that, An Ran quickly tidies up, takes her bag, leaving soon afterwards.
When An Ran had started the car and left the parking lot, she saw Lin Li standing at the company’s main entrance, her expression really off, a box sitting beside her legs.
An Ran cranks the door open and calls out to her, only to see Lin Li carry the box and walk towards her, pull the back door open, and immediately throws the box in. Then, in anger, she circles around to the front of the car, opens the door and gets in. Her face expressionless, she says, “Drive.”
An Ran sees that her complexion is amiss, so she doesn’t ask further. She simply starts the car and leaves.
The car had been on the road for a while now, so An Ran starts to ask Lin Li, “Lao Fo Ye, where are we going?”
“You Ran restaurant.” Lin Li says spitefully.
“Cough….” An Ran chokes on her own saliva. She turns to Lin Li and says, “How about, how about we go some place else? We can go to one of our old spots where the food is still just as good.”
Lin Li faces her, says, “What do you mean change? Where else can we go where we don’t have to spend money?”
An Ran turns red in shame, this girl was actually thinking of dining and dashing!
When they arrived at You Ran restaurant An Ran immediately takes a corner table. It seems that Lin Li is really pissed off, as she takes the menu and nearly orders every single dish available. She sees the server standing beside them a bit flabbergasted, and had asked An Ran if there was another person coming, and if they wanted to change to a private room upstairs.
An Ran shakes her head in embarrassment, snatches the menu from Lin Li’s hand and returns it to the server, quickly saying that’s all for now, so that they can serve the food faster.
The server nods repeatedly, taking the menu, and pours the tea while he's at it.
An Ran was looking at Lin Li who had an unsightly face, asking as nicely as possible, “What’s wrong? Which slave had upset our Lao Fo Ye?”
“Hmph, some people are really shameless, he thought he was such hot stuff, he thought that I wanted to work under him, and doesn’t look at himself, greedy and vain depending on a woman to ascend, he says such things and isn’t afraid of humiliation.” Lin Li says hatefully.
As An Ran listens her forehead creases, completely lost. “What’s the context? Tell me.”
Lin Li turns her head, looking at An Ran, says, “An Ran it’s a good thing that you broke up that year, that girl absolutely isn’t just a thing!”
“You’re talking about Mo Fei?” An Ran probes.
“Who else if not him.” Thinking about it pissed off Lin Li. She had no idea that the new boss in her company was Mo Fei. Furthermore, they sent out emails from human resources, saying that her work was lazy and lacking enthusiasm, and the company didn’t hesitate to fire her.
“What in the world happened?” An Ran was confused, not understanding why Mo fei was tearing Lin Li down, furthermore it was about the matters of work.
Lin Li drinks a mouthful of water. Not long ago, Lin Li’s company location was bought off by a big American building company, and today was the day that the new supervisor would take over. Lin Li didn’t expect that that person would be none other than Mo Fei. When she saw Mo Fei, on the spot, she scolded him with a few words such as hypocrite, which unfortunately was heard by a few other people who happened to be there. Lin Li was a person who saw things in black and white; good was good, bad was bad. Seeing him, without restraint she glared back at him, not showing even a bit of weakness.
On the spot, Mo Fei did not flare up at all. He looks her in the eye, and simply turns around to head up. Lin Li turns around, returns to her seat and starts a resignation letter, but the other person was even quicker, as it hasn’t even been 10 minutes since Mo Fei had gone up, some one from human resources called Lin Li. Pressured from HR, Lin Li then tears her resignation letter in half and was obliged to abandon it. Then she directly goes to HR. Who knew that once she got to HR, the HR manager immediately throws her a letter of dismissal, saying that her work was lazy and not enthusiastic so she is dismissed.
Lin Li stopped speaking, immediately took the letter and went go to bother the chairman. She pushed the door to come in and reprimanded Mo Fei. She then threw the letter onto his desk, but she didn’t expect him to cut her short. He immediately called for security to escort her out, even having security monitor her as she tidies her stuff up to confirm that she hadn’t taken anything from the company, not one paper nor even a pen. Only then could she leave.
Lin Li had never received this kind of treatment before. The anger in her heart soared and steamed her bravery. After all that she immediately called An Ran, and called for a taxi and headed straight to her work place.
“Hypocrite, really a petty person, having a face yet acting as if he doesn’t, this is not a thing.” Lin Li said angrily, her hands had never stopped moving. She just picks up her chopsticks and takes a piece of sweet and sour pork and stuffs it into her mouth, but not forgetting to tell An Ran, “Luckily, luckily you guys broke up that year.”
An Ran sees that she doesn’t retort, and doesn’t expose Lin Li that, that year when they were in the dorms she had praised Mo Fei and Cheng Xiang to their roommate, that they were T uni’s highest-quality men; their grades were top-ranking, their looks were top quality, character was top quality. Perhaps not forgetting about the past, she was certain that Mo Fei wouldn’t turn out this way. But with this morning, she came to understand one thing. A lot of time has passed, things will change. Especially people. Someone who was once so familiar, meeting them again will only leave a sense of unfamiliarity.
Lin Li drinks a mouthful of water, forcing down the food in her mouth. Then with her chopsticks she reaches for a Gong Bao prawn ball, also adding, “In my opinion, your current husband isn’t too bad, at least he’s better than that guy by a lot.”
An Ran was surprised, looking at her suspiciously, “You’ve met Su Yi Cheng?” She definitely does not remember when she had introduced the two!
“Su Yi Cheng? Who’s Su Yi Cheng?” The pair of chopsticks stop mid-air, Lin Li was not herself.
An Ran rolls her eyes, powerless as she was defeated by her.
Seeing her react that way, Lin Li speedily reacts, “Oh, your husband. I’ve never met him. Have you ever introduced us?”
An Ran blushes, picks up a cup of water and drinks a mouthful of it. Then she asks, “Never met, then how would you know whether or not he was good?”
Lin Li looks at the table filled with food, and blankly says, “This is an all you can eat buffet and you don’t need to pay a cent, isn’t that good!”
An Ran has nothing to say. She looks at the dishes on the table, unable to come up with anything.

Sorry for the late update, and I only was able to get one chapter done this week. Apologies. It's also unedited, excuse the constant switching of tenses... the chapter was a lot longer than usual, so I paraphrased some stuff...
Again, apologies. Was just not a good week bc of work. Actually was depressed, but thanks to Lin Li she kinda lifted my spirits up a bit haha. Love her.
Will she allow her friend to use her to keep going to the restaurant?
