First Marriage Then Love 《先婚厚爱》Chapter 68 Translation

068. Believing in him

With wooden movement, she washes the cups clean, and returns the clothes back to the room.

Su Yi Cheng had just finished showering and came out of the bathroom, to see An Ran sitting on the bed staring into space. She was frowning, as if she were thinking about something.

Grabbing a towel to dry off his hair, he gently probes An Ran by calling out, “An Ran?”

It seems like An Ran did not hear, clothes still in her hand, and thinking about something.

Sensing that something wasn’t right, he puts down the towel. Su Yi Cheng walks over to her, sits down beside her, and puts his arm around her shoulder, burying his head into her shoulder, breathing the same scent that he has on his body now after showering.

She was shaken from his action, and her spirit returns to her body. He didn’t know how long he had been sitting beside her. That warm odour is sprinkled onto her shoulder, it was warm. She couldn’t help but feel ticklish, and embarrassed, “Hehe, it’s ticklish.”

Su Yi Cheng yawns and takes the chance to nibble on her ear. His voice starts to become dark and asks, “What were you thinking about earlier. You didn’t hear me when I called your name.”

An Ran was feeling numb from the nibbling, so she jokingly pushes him away, and says, “N-nothing.”

She was just thinking about that cup, thinking about whether or not she should ask him about it, who was it, why were they there, but thinking about it again, she decided to leave it. She believes that the foundation for marriage is trust. He’s 32 this year, and is one of Jiang city’s young bachelor. With his conditions, he would definitely have a lot of admirers. His age, his status, his past couldn’t possibly be a blank paper, it definitely would have been colourful. Not to mention, she herself has a past with Mo Fei.

Last time at YouRan restaurant, he was picking her up, and he didn’t ask her anything. He is entitled to an explanation, isn’t he? By not asking he trusted her, and was honouring her past. She was actually really grateful that he didn’t ask, because those memories of the past weren’t happy. She was grateful that he just hugged her, and didn’t ask anything at all. Since he could do that, why can’t she?

Su Yi Cheng wraps around her and turns her around, looking hard at her large blinking eyes, then kisses her, pasting one on her lips. He asks, “What happened at the reception earlier?”

An Ran responds to his kiss, wearing that fresh and clean scent of the after shower. She carelessly replies to his question, “N-nothing, just a m-misunderstanding.” In the end it’s not that big of a deal, it was just Mrs. Zhang’s capricious muleheadedness bullying, that made the issue bigger than it actually was. However tonight it can be considered that he’s experienced that so-called ‘privilege’ power. Such a rude and unreasonable person, surrendered when faced with the privileged.

Thinking along those lines, An Ran withdraws from his embrace. She reaches out and cups his face, slightly panting, she says in seriousness, “Today I found out how outstanding, government official, you are!” If it weren’t for his appearance, she reckons that she really would have gone to the police station with that shrew.

Su Yi Cheng chuckles, and nibbles on the tip of her nose. “So now you understand how high your social status is?”

An Ran rolls her eyes dramatically, wraps both arms around his neck, and asks seductively, “Then can I ‘walk sideways’ from now on?”

Su Yi Cheng blanks. Hearing what she meant, he jokingly asks, “Are you a crab?”

An Ran laughs and shakes her head,” My husband is the crab, so I must walk sideways too!”

Su Yi Cheng laughs weirdly, her seductive wink could scare people.

“W-w-what do you want?” An Ran looks at his expression. She tries to struggle free, but little by little his body was getting closer and closer. She started to have this weird premonition, and it wasn’t a good one.

Su Yi Cheng’s deep eyes watches her attentively, as if he were a graceful cheetah watching their own prey. He’s wearing this strange smile and draws close to her, his voice drops low, “Tonight let me try and walk sideways with your body.” That tone, was enticing.

Instinctively she wanted to avoid him, as she couldn’t help but think of her aching body tomorrow morning, because she knows, that in this respect this man was excessively demanding!

An Ran turns the other way and was about to flee, but a certain person had already turned into a werewolf and wouldn’t let his prey run away in front of his eyes, and catches her bare foot. Then he pounces on top of her, looks at her, and shows this demonic smile. She was about to protest but she became possessed, making her unable to utter a protest and discontent, all of it was swallowed down.

Then the temperature of the entire room began to rise, and began to fill up with a woman’s whimper and a man gasping for breath. Outside the moonlight seemed to blush with the affairs between a man and a woman, bashfully hiding behind the clouds.

The next day, as per usual, the person beside her was nowhere to be seen when she had awaken. The spot beside her was cold without a drop of heat.

An Ran drags her sore body and props herself up. The muscles in her body felt like it was being tossed and pressed on and she couldn’t help but mercilessly scold Su Yi Cheng a thousand times over, until she felt like she loosened up a bit.

She simply washed herself and changed clothes to go out, only to see Su Yi Cheng making toast and frying eggs in the kitchen. Hearing that she came out, he turns around and smiles warmly at her, and just says, “Sit down first, breakfast is almost ready.”

Hearing that, An Ran sits herself down on the stool in front of the counter, looking at his home attire with an apron on top of it, busying himself in the kitchen because of her. The grumbling and dissatisfaction from before vanishes all at once.

Placing the breakfast in front of her, he sees her pensive face, and asks, “What’s up, what are you thinking about?”

An Ran comes back to earth, looks at him, and says, “Hey, don’t you think I’m too incompetent?”

She suddenly felt ashamed again. Regarding this short marriage, regarding her entire conduct as a wife, she felt like she was too incompetent. Apart from the two times that she made spaghetti and breakfast, she hadn’t really been in the kitchen for him. Even though her cooking skills is barely passable, but as a wife she should ought to take responsibility and do her duty. It seemed like she really was lacking compared to the ideal image of a wife.

Furthermore almost everything she wanted before the marriage hasn’t been accomplished. According to her, in this marriage she should be independent, live independently, have her own independent spending. But during this period, it seemed like she was always troubling him, getting dropped off and picked up in the morning, and he even bought health products for her parents.

This marriage was different from what she had in mind. She thought that they would have nothing to do with each other, and even have seldom contact. But her situation now was completely different from what she had imagined, not only are they not having seldom contact, it’s as if they actually were newly weds, necking each other every night. Even though it was different from what she had imagined, she couldn’t deny, she was really fond of this kind of marriage lifestyle.

Su Yi Cheng smiles, and asks, “As in?”

“Well, it seems like I haven’t been in the kitchen for you.” An Ran says, her face serious.

Su Yi Cheng laughs, and asks again, “And? That’s it?”

“It’s like I’m always troubling you, having you drop me off and pick me up every day.” An Ran says.

Su Yi Cheng nods mysteriously, “Anything else?”

“Uh, from now the first thing I’ll do when I get home is cook, then I’ll clean the room. Where ever you put your clothes after showering and changing, I’ll wash it.” It seems like these things, she hadn’t experienced it, she doesn’t know what a married woman should do. Normally this kind of stuff her mother would do them, so it should be this kind of stuff!

Su Yi Cheng nods and smiles softly at her, asking, “Then what should be done for you to prepare?”

An Ran ponders for a while, looks at him, and asks, “Are you busy today? Do you have a reception today?”

Su Yi Cheng shakes his head, and says, “No.” Monthly inspections were nearly done. Now it’s just committee meetings, most of it are procedures.

“Then, then come home early today, I’ll cook today, so we’ll eat at home?” Saying that left embarrassing. She had been married to him for this long, apart from breakfast, he hadn’t used the stove at home. He either has banquets, or she has receptions.

“Alright.” Su Yi Cheng replies frankly. Then he points at the breakfast on the counter, and hands over the cup of milk he had just poured for her. He then takes a look at his wristwatch, and serenely says, “It’s 8:10 right now, if you don’t eat now, then you might be late for work.”

An Ran looks at the time, and yelps. She pushes the chair away, not getting ready to eat at all, and runs to the bedroom to get her bag and go to work, knowing that the it takes half an hour to get to the company, and it’s rush hour around this time. If they get caught up on the road, then it would be terribly unlucky.

Su Yi Cheng looks at her helter-skelter appearance, he shakes his head and laughs, resolving to take a few bites of his own breakfast. Then he puts the dishes into the dishwasher, and takes a bag out of a cupboard. He puts her breakfast into the bag, and takes a carton of milk from the fridge. This way, when she goes out, she can take it with her, and eat it in the car.

First Marriage Then Love 《先婚厚爱》Chapter 67 Translation

067. Night ferry

The night scene wouldn't be considered beautiful. There weren’t many stars, and there was merely a half-moon hanging in the sky, giving a little illumination to the silent night sky. Tonight there was a breeze, gently blowing, not cold, but rather comfortable.

An Ran was standing in front of the hotel entrance, staring at Su Yi Cheng, not saying anything, but she was wearing a pretty smile at the corner of her mouth.

Su Yi Cheng turns to look at her, and sees that she isn’t walking. He raises his brows and asks, “What’s up?"

An Ran simply smiles. Su Yi Cheng then frowns in confusion, when suddenly she steps forward, wraps her arms around his neck, and gives him a kiss.

Su Yi Cheng was shocked, and it took a while for his spirit to return to his body. When it comes to kissing, it had always been his specialty. One arm wraps around her waist, and the other presses the back of her head, and he deepens the kiss.

When Su Yi Cheng releases her, An Ran was gasping for breath, leaning against his chest, and his mind was elsewhere. As a result of the kiss his chest also moves up and down ferociously.

The couple hug each other for a while more, until both finally calmed down. Su Yi Cheng then speaks into her ears, “Let’s go back?”

An Ran, leaning against his chest, listens to his steady heartbeat. She was especially enjoying this moment of peace.

“Wu---“

Not too far away, a ferry’s flute cries. Its lamp flickers in the middle of the night, the ferry steadily sailing in the river.

An Ran lifts her head up from Su Yi Cheng’s chest, and looks at the night ferry. She then turns to look at the man in front of her, smiles, and asks, “Let’s get on the ferry boat.”

Su Yi Cheng was taken back, but immediately smiles. He nods and says, “Alright.”

The couple sits on the ferry bench. Actually she looked like a sorry state; her hair that was fixed up before work was now messy thanks to the wind, Su Yi Cheng’s suit jacket covers her body, and the big red stain inside has gone black by now. Perhaps now it’s too late to wash it off. As for Su Yi Cheng, the wind messes up his formerly neat hair, but it lets him relax a bit. He loosens his tie, draws up his sleeve. He’s no longer looking serious as he normally does, looking more cheerful, spontaneous.

The ferry did not have a lot of people on it; only a handful of people were there. The ferry travels along the middle of the river. Turning to look at the rainbow lights, there was a feeling that was indescribable, the kind of feeling that’s not normally realized, but one that you learn from experience.

“I heard that the government is planning on building a bridge across Qingjiang River.” An Ran says, fearing that the opportunity to sit on the ferry will be fewer.

“Yeah, that’s the plan.” Su Yi Cheng nods. The construction of the bridge is necessary. Not only will it connect two neighbouring cities, but it will also drive the economic development of both cities.

An Ran nods, and looks at the ripples in the water made by the ferry. She then turns back and looks at the man beside her, calming her body, and rests her head on his shoulder. And he naturally reaches out and embraces her. All of this was done so naturally, as if they had been doing this a thousand times.

The wind caresses her face, and An Ran can hear the water running underneath the ferry. Her eyes slowly start to sink. It seemed that tonight had been a very long night. It was obvious that the night was still young, but it seemed long, and as for her, she was exhausted. She would really like a good night’s sleep.

Dazedly, An Ran’s eyes slowly starts to close, leaning on Su Yi Cheng’s chest, she sleeps at ease, a small smile sits on the corner of her mouth.

Su Yi Cheng lowers his head and looks at the lady on his chest, and a handsome smile begins to form. He gives a small shake of his head, helps her adjust into a more comfortable position, so that she can sleep a little better.

An Ran didn’t know when she had fallen asleep, and didn’t know how Su Yi Cheng had carried her home. When she had woken up again it was already the middle of the night, lying in her bedroom, the bedside light still open, while Su Yi Cheng was not present.

She dazedly gets up, still feeling very sleepy. She rubs her eyes, and yawns gracefully. She turns over, and sees that she is still wearing her evening dress. The stain on her chest is already dry, the deep black was blending into the material, and she knows for sure that she will not be able to wash this off. An Ran was a bit regretful. She hadn’t worn this dress that much, and it’s because of events like these that she had callously bought this. It wasn’t cheap, and now it’s scrap, although it’s not like she doesn’t regret it.

She sniffs at the faint smell of alcohol and opens the armoire to get some pajamas, then she goes into the washroom. When she got out of the washroom Su Yi Cheng was still not there. She thought that he might be busy in the studio, so she leaves the room with a towel in her hand, rubbing away the water in her hair. The light in the living room was still open, but there wasn’t anyone in it. There was a glass on the small coffee table. There was still half a glass of water in it.

Turning around to the direction of the studio, she pushes the door open, but was met with darkness, not even a silhouette of a person was present. This time An Ran was puzzled, her pretty eyebrows start to wrinkle. It’s already this late, where could Su Yi Cheng be?

Still wearing the puzzled face she withdraws from the studio, and was about to go back into the bedroom to call him on his cell. She was about to lock the door when she bumped into someone, and it was Su Yi Cheng who had came in. Seeing that An Ran was up confused him, then he smiled and asked, “Why are you up?”

An Ran looks at him. He was still wearing the suit from the reception, his tie dangling around his neck. The top two buttons were undone, and his sleeves were still up from before.

An Ran smiles, and asks, “Where did you go?”

Su Yi Cheng, looking exhausted, pulls on his tie, and haphazardly throws it on the sofa. He unbuttons a few more buttons, and says, “I met an acquaintance at the gate when we were coming back, so we sat down and talked for a bit. I just sent them back.”

An Ran doesn’t mind too much about it, and steps forward to take the tie the sofa. She then takes the shirt that he had taken off, and looks at his tired appearance. Somewhat worried, she says, “You should hurry and go take a bath. It’s not early anymore, and you still have to work tomorrow.”

Su Yi Cheng looks at her, stares at her for a while. He nods and smiles, turning around into the bedroom.

An Ran looks on at his disappearing figure, a small smile forms. She can feel her heart slowly changing, and feels that she genuinely likes him. That thought was a bit dumb, and perhaps it was a bit too quick. It’s only been half a month since they’ve met!

An Ran sits on the sofa, recalling everything she knows about him. Apparently it was easy to like him. He’s very remarkable, and he treats her with a lot of warmth and consideration. For this kind of man to like her, really was too easy and simple, wasn’t it?

She grins and picks up the tie and shirt, and was about to throw it in the washer. She sees the glass on the coffee table, and instinctually reaches out to take it. She gets up and was about to go to the kitchen, to wash the dishes, when a little bit of water spills out. Yet when she was about to wash the cup something surprised her.

An Ran looks at the fresh red lipstick on the glass, and forgot how to move.

So the person he ran into was a woman?

Why is a woman looking for Su Yi Cheng so late in the night? A thousand thoughts started to run through her mind, these complex emotions running through her heart.
