They reached downstairs, but she didn’t see An Ran’s car. She had no choice but to look at An Ran. “Your car? Was it in an accident or did it get stolen?”

An Ran rolls her eyes, she should’ve known not to expect anything nice from her. “My car’s at the company's parking lot, I didn’t get to drive it back. We’ll take a taxi, a taxi.”

Not in a good mood, An Ran gives her a pat, as she smiles and says, “I already gave you* a few colours so that you* can open up a dye workshop, and I don’t even get a thank you.” *informal

*informal “Hey hey hey, watch your* attitude.” Lin Li deadpans. She looks at An Ran with that expression and then cracks a smile. Seeing Lin Li look at her with that expression, An Ran cracks a smile. In turn, Lin Li also struggles to stifle a laugh. Eventually, the two crack up on the sidewalk, rolling up like a dumpling.

Once they flagged a taxi, An Ran gave the address. But on their way there, the car’s Lao Fo Ye decided to issue a different order, saying that she wants to eat You Ran Restaurant’s yellow croaker. Seeing that today she was to apologize, and seeing that a pregnant woman’s mood is so unstable, An Ran, without hesitation, let the driver change directions and headed towards You Ran restaurant.

When they had entered the restaurant, An Ran did not request for a private room. She only looked around the lounge for a seat by the window, and the waiter smiled as they handed her their menu. An Ran let Lin Li decide on the order. Lin Li eyes An Ran, the corner of her mouth rises up slightly, her expression scheming something evil. 

An Ran was taking a drink of the water that the waiter had just placed down, when she gets a bad premonition. Even more, she had already begun to grieve after her thinning wallet. And when An Ran was secretly grieving for her change purse as if it were the eve of mourning, a ray of light from the side created a shadow of a person that stood beside An Ran. Before An Ran could raise her head, she heard the person say, “Mrs. Su, you’ve come to have a meal!”

“Pu Wu!” An Ran suddenly choked on her water. The water did not go down the right pipe, but instead went up her nose. An Ran's choking face became crimson red, coughing incessantly.

“An Zi?” Lin Li was startled, quickly handed her a napkin, and quickly ran over to her side to pat her back, at the same time, saying, “Are you okay! How can you choke on water!”

An Ran continues to cough. Half of the water had gone up her nose, while the other half was stuck in her throat. She was really suffering.

“Mrs. Su, you, are you okay!” Manager Zhang looks at An Ran with guilt. He was just at the lounge giving the staff orders, when he saw the two ladies come in. Yesterday when Mr. Su had asked for the flower pavilion, he gave a call intending to consult Chief Su, only to hear Chief Su say that that Mr. Su was her older brother, and to give them special treatment. So seeing that An Ran had come back again today, he was thinking of giving her a loud greeting, yet didn’t expect that he was too rash. He accidentally made her choke!

Hearing his words ‘Mrs. Su’ repeatedly, An Ran coughs even louder.

Seeing this, Lin Li turns her head to glare at that Manager Zhang, in a bad mood, she says, “Do you have the wrong person? What do you mean Mrs. Su, who is this Mrs. Su.”

“Uh…” Manager Zhang was startled, he was a bit confused. Pointing at An Ran dazedly he says, “She isn’t Mrs. Su?”

“She’s….” Lin Li was thinking of something to say, when a thought suddenly occurred to her, she turns to look at An Ran. “You got married with a man with the surname Su?”

An Ran took a breath with difficulty, stopped her coughing, however her face was still crimson red. Looking at Lin Li, she nods.

“Mrs. Su, you, are you okay? Are you alright?” Manager Zhang asks with concern.

An Ran nods her head, waving her hand to him, and with difficulty, says, “I’m—I’m fine.”

Only then does Manager Zhang nod his head, but before leaving he does not forget to say, “Then, Mrs. Su, if you ever need anything please let me know.”

They wait for Manager Zhang to leave, and An Ran finally managed to stop coughing. Standing up, Lin Li goes back to her seat, taking the menu upon sitting down. She looks at An Ran cautiously, but doesn't say anything.

An Ran was a bit unnerved. “You.. Whatever you wanna say just say it, whatever you wanna ask just ask, don’t look at me like that, it’s weird.”

After a good amount of time had passed, Lin Li finally asks, “An Zi, what’s your husband like. Seems like he’s rich and powerful!”

An Ran shakes her head. “I don’t know.” She really doesn’t know. Originally last night she was supposed to discuss this with him, but because of her mother’s thing they didn’t get to have a word of it. Hearing him say that he has a business trip today, so even though she wanted to speak with him, it would have to be done tomorrow.

Lin Li put the menu aside, and with a serious face, sits upright. She lectures, “I say, you’re really something! At the first sight you ran off with him to get married, aren’t you being a bit too reckless with yourself.”

“Well actually it’s not really like that. The purpose of being set up is to get married, if both parties find each other suitable, they should just get married. I was afraid, underneath the appearances, that there would be another Lin An Jie jumping out.” An Ran says.

“But doing this is just too careless! At the least the two have to reach an understanding, then be associated with each other for about a month, no, even a week would be fine! You, contrary to what one expects, are so skillful, the day isn’t even over, and only after one or two hours you went to get yourself a certificate. Aren’t you afraid of running into a law-breaker!” Lin Li was a bit upset, not at her, but at the fact that she did not treasure herself.

An Ran simply smiles, not bothering to argue, even though she really wanted to.

Lin Li looks at her angrily, and takes a drink out of the cup of water. She sighs, and looks at An Ran in the eyes again, at the same time feeling guilty and blaming herself. “An Zi, was it because of me, when I told you about Mo Fei that day, so you…”

“No.” An Ran denied. She also grabbed her glass of water and drank. “That day I had met him. He came to find me.”

“F--, he still has the gall to find you!” Lin Li was agitated.

“After we talked a bit that day, I came to understand one thing.” An Ran said. “Even if he hadn’t left 6 years ago, even if I managed to get him to stay, I wouldn’t be able to leave him, and his ambitions are too big. He wanted things that I couldn’t give. Six years later, I still wouldn’t be able to give them to him.”

“Heng, he’s the kind of man you need to look down on. How vain.” Lin Li said with resentment. Seeing how far An Ran has come, she saw all of it, how wronged she was and how much suffering there was. She would have taken it all for An Ran instead.

An Ran gave a small smile, and opens the menu as she puts it in front of Lin Li. “Order. Didn’t you want to punish me, or did you suddenly figure out my plans and want to go home?”

“You’re thinking of trouble, I haven’t eaten a thing this morning, I was looking forward for lunch to punish you.” Lin Li said firmly, scanning the menu. She raised her hand and called for the waiter to order.

015. Lin Li’s person

On Saturday morning, Lin Xiao Fen gets up very early in the morning as usual. She gets busy in the kitchen for the father-daughter pair for the early morning, but today is not like the past. The kitchen today appears to be exceptionally lively. Gu Heng Wen and An Ran also gets up early, and the two get Lin Xiao Fen to stop.

Breakfast was not that abundant, but it was very nutritious. Lin Xiao Fen slowly cooks the congee, and Gu Heng Wen goes out to buy steamed buns as quickly as possible. An Ran also has the intention to make fried eggs, even though it did not turn out looking that nice.

On the dining table, the three have a tacit understanding not to ask about what had happened yesterday evening, however regarding the lies that was spun last night to their son-in-law, Lin Xiao Fen and Gu Heng Wen clearly have not forgotten them.

“Ran Ran, I forgot to ask yesterday. What does Yi Cheng do?” Lin Xiao Fen asks. Concerning Su Yi Cheng, she seems to be quite pleased about him.

“Uh..” An Ran was surprised, unable to come up with an answer. Not even talking about what he does, she doesn’t even know his family members.

“You didn’t ask him?” seeing her odd expression, Lin Xiao Fen guesses the answer.

“N-no, he’s an assistant for a foreign enterprise, the company’s quite big. As to what the company is called, I can’t really remember it right now.” An Ran quickly explained. She remembers that the time when bureau chief Tong saw him, and treated him with politeness, even calling him special assistant Su or something like that. She’s guessing that his company scale ought to be quite big, and also his post ought to be a bit high.

Gu Heng Wen nods, “What his post is and in what company, doesn’t really matter that much. What’s important is that his character is good.”

Smiling, An Ran nods her head, and lowers her head to concentrate on eating her congee.

“Well, since you’ve already received that certificate, when do you guys plan to do this wedding?” Lin Xiao Fen asks again.

An Ran was truly shocked, wedding! She didn’t even think about that. Furthermore, yesterday when she ‘proposed’ to Su Yi Cheng, she said that they don’t need to do a wedding. “Mom, we… We’re not planning to do one.”

“Not doing one!” Lin Xiao Fen wrinkles her brows and frowns, and turns to look at her husband.

Gu Heng Wen puts down his chopsticks, grabs a napkin to wipe his mouth, looks at An Ran and asks, “An Ran, tell dad and mom honestly. You agreed to marry Yi Cheng, is it because you still couldn’t let go of Mo Fei? We’ve already asked Lin Li, she said that Mo Fei is back.”

An Ran was caught off guard, she still feels a thread of pain tightening across her heart. She puts on a vague expression, “No, me and Mo Fei have already no connection since 6 years ago.” She casts her eyes away after finishing, and lowers her head to take a big spoonful of congee.

Her reaction was quite obvious, regardless of her lowering glance anyone could tell.

Gu Heng Wen quietly sighed, and says, “The journey is your own. What you choose, how you go about it, only you yourself can decide. Your mother and I merely wish that you won’t regret it later.”

An Ran raises her head, looks at her father, and nods.

After finishing breakfast, An Ran returns to her room. She took a while to consider giving Lin Li a call as she feels that there is a matter to apologize for, and attitude is very important.

The phone rang for a good while before it was finally connected, not as good as the past, this time Lin Li’s manner of speaking is cold and peculiar.

“Hey hey girl, this afternoon we’re having lunch together.” An Ran also does not fear, she smiles as she speaks.

“No time.” Lin Li coldly declines. She still hasn’t cooled down.

“C’mon, let’s go out. I know that Gong Yuan road just opened a new western restaurant. I heard that that place’s steak is really good.” An Ran said to lure her.

Lin Li is indeed known as a food lover, having good appetite, and despite always eating, she does not gain weight. Thinking about their university days in their dorms, there was one time when they went to the dining hall pretty late, the food was already reflecting light. Surprisingly, there was still food leftover, and the two girls mentally traced back to their dorm and remembered that there was still some snacks. Considering all that, they took those kind of snacks [from the cafeteria].

Their dorm is on the 5^th floor, and the travel to the dining hall isn’t too far. Each person scoops some food into their hands and prepare to go upstairs, in Lin Li’s vision, she sees layers and layers of each flight of steps, and can only sigh hungrily in defeat. An Ran eyes her, and says that they already have the food in their hands, you can only walk and eat at this point. On the journey up, they barely reached the 5^th floor  when they hear a voice cry out “Lin Li!” from behind, asking if they’re still getting food from the canteen. An Ran puzzlingly looks at both hands, empty as a bucket, and asks, where’s your food? Lin Li eyes her oddly, ‘I ate it’ she says as she turns around and runs down excitedly, her mouth muttering, didn’t know there was still more food in the canteen. 

On the other side of the phone, Lin Li was silent for a while. Finally, she coolly says, “Pick me* up at noon, or else I* won’t go.” (the ‘me’ she uses here is one for widowed empresses.)

An Ran smiles, if she didn’t mishear, she had heard Lin Li swallowing down her saliva. But of course, she didn’t mention it, and quickly answers, “Yes, LaoFoYe/ Empress Dowager.”

When An Ran arrived at Lin Li’s house at noon, Cheng Xiang was the one to open the door. Cheng Xiang is a refined lady-killer, his skin fair and clear, his glasses especially accentuates an intellectual air. At the time when Lin Li was bewildered and utterly lost by this intellectual air, she still had the guts to chase after him for years with starry eyes. Finally, at a moonless night and when the winds were great, she successfully won him over.

“You’re here.” Cheng Xiang greets her warmly.

“Yes~ where’s your Empress Dowager?” An Ran asks. Her, Cheng Xiang, and Lin Li were all schoolmates, even after graduating so long ago she still keeps in touch with the two of them.

“Still changing.” Cheng Xiang invites her into the living room to have a seat, as he goes into the kitchen to pour her a cup of water. As he pours her water, he says, “Actually, there’s no need to go out to eat. I can make whatever you guys want to eat.”

“Sure.” She has already had a taste of Cheng Xiang’s craftsmanship, his cooking is as comparable to a high-class kitchen.

“If you’re thinking of falling, heng! I won’t give you servant a chance for my darling Xiang.” Lin Li was ready, coming out from the change room. She sees Cheng Xiang politely hand over the cup of water to An Ran, and reaches out with a hand to intercept it. She tips her head as she drinks a big mouthful, and hands back the empty cup to Cheng Xiang. She looks at An Ran and says, “In the future when this person comes here, you don’t need to serve her any beverages.”  Lin Li is also a beauty, if only she didn’t speak, she would absolutely be in accordance with China’s traditional sense of a beautiful woman. Big eyes, fair skin, tall stature, and a seemingly inherent peaceful temperament… If she didn’t speak she would absolutely be a daughter of a noble house. However, with an open of a mouth, a kick of a foot, that temperament of the daughter of a noble house is completely gone. Besides that, you get the opposite—a bandit girl from the mountains.

With defeat, Cheng Xiang smiles at An Ran, while An Ran smirks with understanding.

“Let’s go, why are you still sitting? You still consider yourself as a guest?!” Lin Li says frowning.

An Ran hurriedly gets up, “Okay okay okay, Lao Fo Ye (empress dowager). I (used to refer oneself as lower) will hold the door for you.” She says as she steps forward to support the open door.

           

Lin Li nods her head in satisfaction, “This is not too bad.” She turns to Cheng Xiang and gives him a gentle smile, and says, “Hubby, I’m going out.” She moves closer to give Cheng Xiang a kiss on the cheek. It’s only with Cheng Xiang that Lin Li will show off this side of her—the charming attitude of a woman. Seeing this kind of attitude nearly made An Ran gag, but Lin Li gave her a threatening look that hid her tyrannical abuse, a look that she had slowly perfected. So after being tormented for nearly 10 years, seeing these scenes of saying goodbye, An Ran has already perfected the art of appearing indifferent.

014. My wife, your daughter in law

An Ran gives Su Yi Cheng the address. During the ride, the atmosphere became quiet and a little strange. Lin Xiao Fen closes her eyes and leans on to Gu Heng Wen’s shoulder, her mouth purses up, carefully looking, and slightly trembling, as if she was suppressing her innermost thoughts. Beside her, Gu Heng Wen’s face becomes unreadable, he firmly holds his wife’s hands, not saying a word.

When the car was half way to the destination, in the end An Ran wasn’t able to endure it, and asks, “Mom… You know that person from before?” Actually, there was no need to answer. An Ran already knew what the answer was. Because their silence confirmed it.

Lin Xiao Fen’s closed eyes suddenly opened, and after a while, she closes it again, having no power in her voice, she says, “No, I don’t know him.”

Seeing this, An Ran doesn’t ask anymore. She turns and looks out the window, looking at the speeding streetscape, distancing her train of thought.

Arriving at the Gu house, Gu Heng Wen guides Lin Xiao Fen into the house. Su Yi Cheng was also planning to go in as well, but when they alighted the car, he got a call from home again. It’s a call from his mother. He was going to say that he would come home tonight, and since he hasn’t returned, his mother immediately erupted.

An Ran looks at him, and says, “If something came up, you can go ahead first. There’s no need to come in.”

Su Yi Cheng looks at his cellphone, and nods. Not forgetting to say before leaving, “If there’s anything, call me.”

An Ran nods. Her mind is full of worry, as she has never seen her mother like this.

Su Yi Cheng looks at her, advances to hug her, and says, “Go on. I’ll give you a call tomorrow.”

An Ran gawks at him, nods, and turns around to head into her home.

By the time An Ran enters the house, Lin Xiao Fen was already in bed. An Ran quietly goes in, and only sees Gu Heng Wen carefully tucking her in.

“Dad.” An Ran whispers.

Gu Heng Wen turns around, makes a gesture to quiet her, and then turns An Ran around to leave the room.

In the living room, An Ran looks at her father and asks, “Dad, mom knows that man, right?”

Gu Heng Wen looks into her eyes, and starts to say, “An Ran, there are some things that dad and mom don’t want to tell you, because the suffering and unhappiness is too much to bear. Mom and dad never wants you not live happily, do you understand?”

“Dad….” An Ran looks at him.

“Don’t ask about this anymore, and especially, don’t ask this in front of your mother. There are some matters that are hurtful, not because there isn’t enough time for the wound to heal. If you ask her again, you’re only reminding her of the pain from that time. The wound is quite deep.” Gu Heng Wen pats her hand, saying so.

An Ran nods her head, not imploring any further. An Ran was not able to catch any sleep for the following night. She knows that her father has also spent the night in the living room by himself. She doesn’t know what kind of grudges and animosity lies in between her mother and that man, but these things are not that important. What’s in the past is in the past, and she will not press on the matter anymore. She will wait for her mother to forget that pit-in-the-stomach injury and pain.

Upon returning to the Jun Qu* courtyard, Qin Yun sits in the living room waiting for his return, her expression hard. Su Yi Cheng rubs his nose outside, and enters, calling out, “Ma, you’re still up.”

*Jun Qu= a military district of the PRC

Qin Yun doesn’t look at him, and in a coldly tone, says, “So you still know that you have a mother, I thought that you’d completely forgotten. Don’t know who gave birth to you.”

Su Yi Cheng smiles, not taking her words to heart, as he knows that she has a temper right now. To pour oil in the fire would lead to a dead end. He takes off his jacket and sits opposite to her, grabbing the military publication on the desk and looking through it, not speaking any further.

Seeing that he is not saying anything, Qin Yun actually cannot sit still. She pulls out the publication in his hands, and with some anger still not yet appeased, says, “I’m talking to you. How can you be so rude.”

Having heard what was said, Su Yi Cheng sits upright, and looks at her earnestly.

Qin Yun was caught off guard, thinking that he would say something, but even after waiting a while, he still hasn’t said a word. She can’t help but ask, “What are you up to?”

Su Yi Cheng coughs lightly, and in quite a conscientious manner, says, “Modestly listening to Mother DaRen’s instruction.”

Qin Yun jokingly slaps her son, “Che, how improper. If you really want to listen to my words then that’s good, not to mention instructions.”

Su Yi Cheng laughs, wraps his arms around his mother’s shoulders, and says, “I really was thinking of coming home for dinner. It’s just that just then, it so happens that something came up, so I wasn’t able to walk away from that.”

“You’re just trying to dodge me. You haven’t came home once, when is there a time where you could walk away from a matter.” Qin Yun replies unhappily.

Su Yi Cheng rubs his nose, not speaking, but quietly thinking, Indeed!

“Can’t say a word huh.” Qin Yun looks at him, and smiles coldly.

Si Yi Cheng was in the wrong, and quickly switched to another topic, asking, “Where’s dad and grandpa? They already asleep?”

“Your grandpa’s already sleeping, your dad’s in the study room. They were quite happily waiting for you to come home and eat together. You really disappointed them, just calling once to say that you’re not coming, you made grandpa unhappy the entire evening.” Qin Yun complains.

Hearing what was said, Si Yi Cheng gets up and heads towards the study room. “I’m going to see grandpa and dad.”

“Hey, wait a minute.” Seeing that he was about to leave, Qin Yun hurriedly pulls him, and says, “Sit first. I have something to say to you.”

“What?” Si Yi Cheng asks, having an ominous premonition.

“Yesterday, chief of staff Jun Qu Li’s wife specially came here saying that she would like to introduce you to someone. The girl is a graduate student of her’s. She’s been said to be especially pretty and neat.. So you see, when should we arrange a time, you should find some time to put aside so you can see this girl, dine with her and so on.” Qin Yun says quickly.

Su Yi Cheng sighs. Even though it wasn’t far from what he expected, it’s only her that would beat around the bushes. His mother definitely wants to introduce him a potential partner. This is why, yet again, he really was afraid to come home.

           

“Well? How about this, tomorrow I’ll go instead of you and set up a time with her to meet?” Qin Yun pushes.

“Don’t, mom.” Su Yi Cheng really was afraid of his mom, quickly shaking his head and continues,  “You don’t have to concern yourself with my marital matters. You also don’t need to introduce me to each and every young lady. I want to go tomorrow, but I have a trip to S city and I won’t be back until the day after tomorrow. How about this, the day after tomorrow, or possibly Monday, I’ll bring you to meet someone.” He was going to bring An Ran to meet her, so she can save her old worries about weddings.  

“Someone? Who?” Qin Yun asks unphased.

“My wife, your daughter-in-law.” Su Yi Cheng laughs mysteriously and turns to go to the study room, leaving a stunned Qin Yun behind.

013. This man is a son-in-law 2

An Ran has a bad premonition. She walks over to Su Yi Cheng’s side, and glares at him. She had planned to tell them herself, and exchange a few pleasantries first. She never thought that he would be this direct and call out in front of her mom and dad.

Su Yi Cheng smiles as he puts a hand on her shoulder, and quietly speaks into her ears, “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”

The couple sit in front of Lin Xiao Fen and Gu Heng Wen. An Ran awkwardly forces a smile and begins to explain, but gets interrupted by Su Yi Cheng, “I will give an explanation to mom and dad.”

He rises to pour the two elders some tea. “This is Qing Ming Qian’s Long Jing Tea. It is very pure. Dad, mom, please give it taste.”

Gu Heng Wen does not look at the tea. He only silently stares. 

Su Yi Cheng smiles and says, “I am Su Yi Cheng. This afternoon I, with An Ran, went to apply to register for marriage, and received a marriage certificate.”

“Th-this.. An Ran what in the world is going on? Marriage… Why didn’t I hear you talk about this!” Lin Xiao Fen eagerly asks her daughter. Why hasn’t this child discussed her marriage with her? Yesterday she was definitely still….

“Mom, I….. Actually….” An Ran was about to explain, but doesn’t know where to start.

“An Ran, how long have you guys known each other?” Gu Heng Wen asks solemnly.

An Ran gapes, and a good moment later she says, “We.. We met at noon.”

“An Ran, you!” Lin Xiao Fen widens her eyes. She simply does not believe that An Ran would suddenly marry a guy she just met!

“Do you think that marriage is just child's play? So carelessly!” Gu Heng Wen says with a force in his tone, clearly angry.

“Dad, mom, we aren’t treating marriage like a play. Even though we haven’t known each other for very long, and perhaps we may not understand each other’s disposition yet, but we will treat this marriage with an earnest heart. We will make great effort, and do this properly. I may not be able to guarantee what I can give to An Ran in the future, but I will do my very best to give An Ran happiness. We may not be wealthy in the future, but I think in 30 years, 40 years, we can be like dad and mom, holding each other’s hand, laughing together, being happy together.” Su Yi Cheng takes An Ran’s hand and looks at her, smiling tenderly at her.

An Ran looks at him incredulously. His speech just now, why does it not seem like they got married in the spur of the moment, but more like love at first sight, like they have always known each other!

Lin Xiao Fen and Gu Heng Wen look at each other speechlessly.

At this time, there was a knock on the door. Manager Zhang has personally come, and asks, “Mr. Su, should I set the dishes now?”

Su Yi Cheng’s acute hearing does not pick this up. Furthermore, his head does not turn at all. He simply looks at Lin Xiao Fen and Gu Heng Wen, his hands tightly grasping An Ran’s.

For a long time, Manager Zhang awkwardly stands, not knowing when would be the right time. Gu Heng Wen, sitting with a solemn expression, eventually starts to speak. Facing towards Manager Zhang, he says, “Please serve.”

As soon as Su Yi Cheng leaves, Lin Xiao Fen’s smiling expression clearly drops. She looks at An Ran and says, “How did you guys meet each other? You dared to marry this man after just a day. Even though I wanted to marry you off, I didn’t allow you to be this reckless!”

An Ran stresses the time that Lin An Jie almost made a big issue by disrespecting her, and Su Yi Cheng happened to be there to help her; she told them every detail of that event. She also briefly mentioned about the unexpected blind date today, and then came to an agreement with Su Yi Cheng’s speech. It kind of moved her.

Hearing this, Gu Heng Wen hesitates to speak, only asking An Ran this one question, “You won’t regret it?”

An Ran hesitates for a good while, and firmly nods her head. “I won’t.”

Gu Heng Wen nods his head and says, “Your life is your’s. This is also your choice. Go by your choices. Even if you fall, that is a part of growing up.”

Su Yi Cheng’s phone call took a while. It probably took a little more than 10 minutes for him to return. The party that were sitting and eating, waited until desserts had arrived, and got ready to leave. An Ran said that she would pay the bill, but was interrupted by Su Yi Cheng, who said that he had already paid.

 The Gu parents observe the couple, and the corner of their mouths slowly rise into a smile.

When they escorted the couple through the door of You Ran Restaurant, they bumped into the party that An Ran had argued over the room with. Tong Wen Hai’s family was also just about to leave. Tong Wen Hai’s sharp eyes catches Su Yi Cheng’s, and in a low voice he says something to his wife, afterwards quickly advancing to them and calling out, “Special assistant Su.”

Hearing this, Su Yi Cheng stops his tracks. He turns his head to look at him, and in a curt and distant manner, greets him. “Bureau chief Tong.”

“Special assistant Su has also just finished eating? These two must be…” Tong Wen Hai looks at the Gu Heng Wen and Lin Xiao Fen standing beside Su Yi Cheng, and was about to say something, but upon seeing Lin Xiao Fen, he has a sudden change in expression, even taking a few steps back and pointing at her, he stutters, “Xiao Fen!....”

Lin Xiao Fen also recognizes him, and quickly hides her face after recovering from the shock, avoiding looking at him. Gu Heng Wen also appears to see something out from this, and looks into Tong Wen Hai’s eyes. He turns to Su Yi Cheng and says, “Yi Cheng, you should deal with your matters first, your mom’s not feeling so well, so An Ran and I will take her home first.”

An Ran looks at Tong Wen Hai, not asking any further. She walks forward while supporting Lin Xiao Fen.

“Please excuse us, Bureau chief Tong. My mother in law isn’t feeling well, so I will have to leave first.” Su Yi Cheng explains to Tong Wen Hai, and quickly runs to open to the car door to let Gu Heng Wen and Lin Xiao Fen in. Before getting into the car, An Ran notices that Tong Wen Hai was still standing there, his face expressing shock over the unexpected event, and being led into his car.
