In ‘Jing Cheng’ building’s general meeting room, Huang De Xing sits in the first seat. An Ran and Xiao xiao sit separately on his two sides, and the other workers follow suit, sitting along the side following An Ran and Xiao xiao.
Huang De Xing carries the cup of tea and takes a sip of it, and says, “Today’s gathering will mainly be about 2 things.”
An Ran takes a pen and comes up with something to draw. She doesn’t know the purpose of this meeting, but she guesses that it has to be related to the construction site accident. She doesn’t know what the outcome is, however looking at Hou Zheng Wen’s proud face opposite to her, she assumes that he had nothing to do with it.
“Concerning the shopping center ‘Bi Hu Yuan’, the cause of the collapse at the construction site, the firm has already investigated it thoroughly.” Huang De Xing says. As he speaks he shoots a glance at An Ran, then Hou Zheng Wen, and finally looks at who was Xiao xiao sitting on his left.
“My construction was done according to Architect Gu’s plans. If there really was a problem, then it wouldn’t be with me.” Hou Zheng Wen says coldly as looks at An Ran, his manner of speaking was rather provoking.
An Ran stares at him, not speaking, circling her pen around. If it really was her to blame, then she doesn’t have anything to say. Huang De Xing looks at Hou Zheng Wen, and starts to say, “There weren’t any problems with An Ran’s designs. The company asked a specialist to examine the blueprint in detail. Everything in the plan was reasonably calculated, so it was not the cause of the accident.”
Hou Zheng Wen’s eyes pop open, “I worked in accordance to the blueprint, if there was nothing wrong with the plan, then there certainly should be no problem with my construction.”
“Lao Hou, you didn’t let me finish, why are you getting so worked up for? I haven’t said that there was a problem with the construction.” Huang De Xing looks at him as he jokingly says this.
Hou Zheng Wen rubs his nose, muttering, “As long as it’s not my fault.”
Huang De Xing looks at Xiao xiao once again, then starts to say, “This accident wasn’t on the plans, neither was it on the construction. It was all a result of the quality of the cement, which simply did not reach safety standards. This supportive use of the 32.5 grade of the Portland cement composite compressive strength was measured to be barely 4.8, 4.3 MPa, while the standard is 32.5 MPa, differing by a factor of 6.8 and 7.6. This kind of Portland cement composite then lost its usable value. This is also the main cause of the collapse.”
An Ran raises her head at this unexpected outcome. It was the cement strength that didn’t reach standards. This completely relates to whether or not the building can be built, whether or not it can collapse, whether or not it’s a jerry-built building project. This relates to the lives of the hundreds of thousands of inhabitants.
One after another, the others begin to talk. In construction this is the situation that one fears the most. If there was something wrong with the blueprint or the construction then it can easily be changed, but this frugal spending, lowering the quality of the building, it all comes down to human lives. It’s good that they were able to discover the accident now while it’s still early, if it were later, after everything was completed, then the dreaded collapse wouldn’t just be that balcony; the casualties of the collapse wouldn’t just be one person.
Huang De Xing waves his hands to settle everyone down, and says, “Alright, regarding the issue with the cement quality, the company will co-ordinate with the supplier to resolve this, I will only report this matter in a paragraph, so do not start arguments with each other.”
“Since the matter has been thoroughly seen, I have no complaints.” Hou Zheng Wen mutters.
“If it was a problem with the materials, then even the best design and construction would be in vain. I personally believe that regarding this accident, our company must pursue legal sanction against the supplier. After all we are a construction business, eventually this building will have people living in it, and we aren’t able to bear this big of a risk.” An Ran says objectively.
Huang De Xing nods, and glances at Xiao xiao on his side, only says, “The company will handle this matter, there will absolutely be no appeasements.”
An Ran nods. She turns her head and sees Xiao xiao sending her a glance, only seeing her smiling faintly as she looks at her. Her eyes were somewhat fierce. An Ran frowns, looking up to look at her, only to see that she had already turned away, smiling as she asks Huang De Xing about the other thing.
Huang De Xing nods, and says, “ The next thing will be about the city hall building’s bidding that will start in a few days. Our company’s blueprint is yet to be decided. Next Wednesday I was thinking of making a public evaluation for the company. Several architects will submit their designs. At that time everyone can vote, whoever has the most votes will have their design chosen. Of course if the interns are interested they can also participate, this can be considered as a chance to train yourself.”
Calling to mind about the blueprints An Ran starts to get a headache. The past few days she has been busy labouring over it yet she doesn’t know what to be busy about. About the blueprint to the city hall building, up until now she has only managed to come up with a draft. With the particulars she still hasn’t come up with any. At first she wanted to spend the past few nights to get it done on time, however with Su Yi Cheng wrapping himself around her every night, tossing her from night and well into the morning not letting her go to bed, she really doesn’t understand where in the world he gets all that energy from.
Thinking about all that, An Ran couldn’t help but both get shy and annoyed at the same time, her face has also become unconsciously hot.
“An Ran?” Huang De Xing wrinkles his brows, calling her in a low voice.
Only then does An Ran come back to earth, looking at him blankly, and once again looks at everyone. She didn’t hear anything at all about what they were just talking about.
“What are you thinking about, your face has gone red. The Director has called on you several times yet you haven’t answered back.” Facing her Xiao xiao smirks as she speaks coldly.
An Ran couldn’t help but rub her burning cheeks, apologizing to Huang De Xing and nods. “Sorry, my mind went wandering.”
Huang De Xing looks at her, and only says, “Tonight there’ll be dinner with city construction’s Bureau Chief Tong. After work don’t be in a rush to leave, until then just wait with me and Xiao xiao for the dinner.”
An Ran nods quickly, “Okay. I got it.” These types of social niceties are actually universal, although she doesn’t like it much, but she can’t decline.
Huang De Xing nods, then collects the materials on the desk, taking the lead and stands up, saying, “Ok, that’s all for the meeting today. Everyone can go back to work.”
An Ran sighs, leaning against the chair and sitting there, no sign of leaving. Her eyes were tired, her body was aching. She thinks that she should very well discuss their married life together. Otherwise she’ll be sucked dry.
“Congrats, what luck.”
While An Ran was thinking of how to bring this up with Su Yi Cheng when overhead she hears a cold voice, her tone cold, not good-natured. She raises her head to look, only to see Xiao xiao looking at her with a faint smile, but her eyes don’t have the slightest amount of a smiling expression.
“What do you mean?” An Ran frowns, not understanding what she meant by ‘Congrats’, where that came from?
Xiao xiao looks at her with a strange smile, not saying anything. She turns around to leave to the conference room.

Thank you for your translation. Thank you for updating this every week. Checking this blog once a week (every Saturday or Sunday) has become my routine. Love you from Indonesia.
ReplyDeleteI hope this book can also be adapted to drama one day.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your comments :) I hope it could too! An Ran would probably be the best female lead ever in modern dramaland haha... I love her character so much lol
DeleteOoh is that a flag I see? OwO
ReplyDeleteThe whole interns can submit a draft too is starting to look a like a problem in the future, especially since Ling Lin (I think that’s the intern’s name) doesn’t seem to be that great of a talent yet she’s so close to An Ran and her designs.
Anyways, thank you so much for translating this! I’ve been binging and it’s so interesting and very good so far! And happy new year!
In our life, there'll be always one or two people who are angry at us without us knowing anything.
