After breakfast, An Ran changed out of her cozy pyjamas and went out with Su Yi Cheng. Today Su Yi Cheng is also changed out of his usual attire of Western suits. He wears a relaxed windbreaker, and khaki-coloured pants. His hair is parted haphazardly, looking a little like one of those South Korean pop stars.
In front of the door, An Ran dazedly stares at him, motionless for a while and not speaking.
Seeing her like that, Su Yi Cheng asks, “What’s up? Is there something wrong?”
An Ran shakes her head, finally choking out, “So all along my husband is actually really handsome.” Her expression was a hundred percent serious, not in the least bit mocking.
Su Yi Cheng found her serious expression and serious tone rather amusing. He lowers his head and kisses those alluring red lips, until An Ran thought that she was going to die for not breathing, that he finally let go of her. He holds her gently, wrapping his arms around her back to stroke her. He presses his lips onto her ears, and whispers, “I’ve always known that my wife was beautiful.”
An Ran turns red as a result of those teasing words of endearment. She felt this kind of sweet happiness.
Today the weather wasn’t too bad. It was sunny, but it wasn’t that hot. There was a light breeze, blowing against one’s face. It was really nice.
Su Yi Cheng doesn’t start the car, and only pulls An Ran along the sidewalk. An Ran let him lead the way, but she doesn’t get where he is taking her. She then turns to him and asks, “Where are we going?”
Su Yi Cheng laughs, but doesn’t say anything. Their apartment was at the heart of downtown, so there were a lot of bus stops. When Su Yi Cheng led her to the bus stop, An Ran then realizes that today they will be going on a trip.
“Are we going far?” She looks at the semi-long queue in front of her, asking in a small voice.
Su Yi Cheng shakes his head, “Not far.” They waited until they people in front of them leave one by one, then when it was their turn he holds out a folded bill into the window and says, “Two tickets to Sunset.”
Sunset Town is a small town subsidized by Jiang City. The sunset there is especially beautiful, thus getting the name Sunset Town.
Sunset Town is especially developed in fishery, as a result of it being close to the sea. The sun would slowly rise on top of the sea, then slowly set down again. The evening sky was always a bright red, mixed with a golden radiance. It was beautiful, pretty. In the past a photography lover had taken the opportunity to snap a photo of the beautiful sunset glow, and it was said that the photograph had won an award for a national photography competition, thus sparking it as a prosperous tourist attraction. Many people would take the trouble of traveling far only to take a look at the blazing sun, the scene of the sun slowly setting atop the surface of the sea.
Actually the trip wasn’t that far, driving would only take about 2 hours. An Ran and Su Yi Cheng’s seat was at the very back. Because they did not sleep very well last night, and had to wake up early the morning after, once they seated themselves, An Ran’s sleepiness immediately came upon her. When she finally took a seat she rested her head and slightly leaned on Su Yi Cheng, closing her eyes and falling asleep.
Su Yi Cheng looks at her and chuckles as he shakes his head. Then he adjusts her seat to a good position, so she can sleep at a more comfortable position.
In a daze An Ran could hear the hushed whispering of the person beside her. She lazily opens her eyes, only to see Su Yi Cheng sitting upright holding his cellphone, whispering into the phone about something. Hearing the content, it was probably something about work.
Seeing that she was awake, he smiles at her. Then he says a few final words to Secretary Zheng, and hangs up.
“Did I wake you up?” Su YI Cheng reaches out and brushes aside the hair on her forehead.
“You had work?” She heard him say to Secretary Zheng something about land development documents, and she knows that with the nature of his work, naturally he wouldn’t get weekends off.
“Nope.” Su Yi Cheng firmly shakes his head, then looks out the window and says, “Why don’t you sleep a bit more, we’re still about half an hour away.” An Ran shakes her head, and looks at him with guilt. She knows that it was because of yesterday’s incident that he’s taking the time to keep her company. Thinking about that, she lowers her head and says, “Actually you didn’t have to take the time off to stay with me.” Saying that, she raises her head to look at him, forces a smile, and says, “I’m okay.”
Su Yi Cheng nods, “I know. But this was my idea, so I insisted on pulling you along. Earlier in the morning Secretary Zheng said that the morning sunrise and sunset was really beautiful. He came here with his girlfriend before and took a few pictures. I saw them and thought it was beautiful. I’ve never had the time to go, and also didn’t have anyone to go with me. It’s a rare day where I have the time, and you didn’t have anything to do so you could come with me. How nice is that.”
An Ran looks at him, his expression looking innocent and as if he had stated the obvious, and she couldn’t help but laugh. However she still wasn’t quite at ease, so she asked to confirm again, “Work, really there isn’t anything important to do?”
“I’m not Ironman, of course I need to rest too.” Su Yi Cheng states the obvious.
It was exactly 10 o’clock when they reached Sunset Town. It was the first time for the both of them, so they were not familiar with this. An Ran was about to say that they should take a stroll at the coast, but since they weren’t familiar with the area, the both of them spent $5 to rent a three-wheeled vehicle. Once they took a seat, An Ran could see the social customs of this town along the way. But once they turned the corner the vehicle stops, points at the large golden sandy shore and said they were done. This was merely a one minute travel, only had turned a corner.
The two of them, on the vehicle, sat there without a reaction, and the driver thought that they weren’t planning to pay. He purposefully opens two buttons on his shirt, exposing his sun-tanned muscles, intending to scare them, “You guys didn’t bargain, and I didn’t say that you couldn’t bargain. We’re here, hurry and give me the money, I still have business to do.”
Su Yi Cheng looks on and couldn’t help but laugh, quickly raising his hand to indicate that he doesn’t have to get so worked up, and takes out five dollars from his wallet. He hands it over to the driver and says, “Da ge, thank you.” Then he alights from the vehicle himself, and helps An Ran down, and the couple walks towards the golden sandy shore.
An Ran sees that he had a smile on his face throughout the journey, and she couldn’t help but tease him, “What, is it amusing to be jilted by a person for the first time?”
Su Yi Cheng glances at her, and squeezes her hand. He jokingly replies back, “Five dollars made me realize one thing, no matter where you go, you really shouldn’t ask a driver for directions.”
An Ran laughs and glances at him, then turns around, running towards the vast sea. The last time that she had visited the seaside had been too long, it must have been way back when she was still in university and came with her schoolmates. After entering the workforce, the work was endless. She really hasn’t been to the seaside in a long time.
An Ran runs towards the vast sea, and places both hands by her mouth, yelling out to the sea, “Ah! Sea!” Then she turns around, laughing heartily, and happily reaches out to Su Yi Cheng.
Su Yi Cheng looks on towards the figure whose back was against the sunlight, ponytail flying thanks to the sea breeze, face adorning a big smile. This kind of scene was beautiful, and looking at it, made one’s heart skip a beat.
---END OF CHAPTER---
Aw, how sweet~
It's been more than a year since I had the chance to go to the beach. I miss it. I love the sunrise and the sunset views by the sea. Thank you for your hard work!
ReplyDeleteI spend every summer near the sea, but once I graduate and get a job, I won't have summer vacations anymore. Just like her, I might spend many years not seeing the sea. Only a few summers left, I should cherish them
ReplyDeleteIronman? *cries*
