009. Married Woman

Even An Ran felt that her own simple-mindedness is a tragedy. Just saying that an unexpected mishap on a blind date had just happened is enough to make her laugh to death. She really fell for it, she got married with another person, that’s that!

Standing in front of the civil administration office An Ran looks down at the red card in her hand. Only a while later did she raise her head to look at Su Yi Cheng, and said, “Then let’s go back inside and annul this marriage.” She thought back to a time when she was watching TV and read an article about it on the newspaper, that said something about dodging lightning weddings, thinking back then that the matter was inconceivable and incomprehensible. Never did she think that she would be in such a situation. Ever since she got this card, she hasn’t even gone home once. Now they have to go back inside and change cards.

Su Yi Cheng stares at her, and asks, “Must you marry that Mu Feng?”

An Ran, shocked, automatically shakes her head. Must she marry Mu Feng!

“Then you’ve seen him before, you know him?” Su Yi Cheng asks again.

An Ran frowns, and shakes her head once again. How could she have possibly met Mu Feng before. If she had, it'd be unlikely that she would get the wrong person. What a joke!

“In other words, even if you didn't have a blind date with Mu Feng today, if you felt that you guys were suitable, you would still propose to marry. You weren’t thinking of Mu Feng, that you had to get a marriage license with him. Am I right?” Su Yi Cheng smiles, asking yet another question.

An Ran stares in shock, finally nodding her head.

“Then isn’t that fine. You went on a blind date with me, then felt that I was suitable, and like that, we got married, so why not?” He concludes his questioning.

An Ran feels like a spiral had entered her. She stares at him, and thought about it for a while, and finally nods her head. Indeed, it makes no difference who it was with.

Su Yi Cheng looks at her shocked and speechless appearance, thinking that it was kind of funny. He turns to look at secretary Zheng coming out of the car, lifting his arm and tapping his wristwatch to indicate that his time is up. He looks at his watch; it really is almost time. He has a meeting this afternoon, and needs to return to the municipal committee. He turns to An Ran and says, “Give me your number.”

“Eh….” An Ran is surprised. She doesn’t know what he needs her number for, yet she still reaches into her bag and hands it over to him.

Su Yi Cheng grabs it, turns on the phone, and quickly enters a few buttons. Following that, the phone in his hand rings out an elegant, mellow piano tune. He returns the cellphone to An Ran, and says, “I’ve already put in my number. I have some matters to attend to right now, so I have to return. What time do you finish work?”

“5:30.” An Ran instinctively answered.

“Ok, I’ll pick you up. Wait for my call.” Su Yi Cheng nods, and immediately heads over to secretary Zheng after he finishes speaking.

Until Su Yi Cheng gets in his car to leave, the car getting further and further away until it leaves behind a small point, does An Ran finally return to earth. She looks back, and looks down at the marriage certificate that she had snatched herself. She opens her cellphone again and looks through her contacts to find his cell number and name. Now in hindsight, she realizes herself that she really got married, and with regard to her husband, all she knows is that he is called Su Yi Cheng. Furthermore, she doesn’t know what he works as, or even his age!

However, before she could do any more thinking, Lin Li’s chasing spirit seizes the opportunity and calls in. An Ran looks at the doom calling from her cellphone, takes in a deep breath. She can't hide anymore, and this matter cannot be concealed even if she tried. She answers the call, and as expected, as soon as the call connected, Lin Li, hollered in violent rage, “GU AN RAN, you want to die?! Hanging up on me and even turning off your phone, are you not concerned for your life?! You shouldn’t have turned on your phone then! Turning it off for 5 minutes or 10 minutes, you think you’ll be a hero?!”

“I wasn’t thinking of being a hero….” An Ran had her phone as far from her ear as possible, there’s no other choice when Lin Li is like this, her voice is naturally loud. Even if you put a distance, you can still clearly hear her roar.

“Hero, hmph! Don't even think about it! In this lifetime it's more likely you'll be a bear instead!*" (*Thank you to joecck for solving this mystery!)  Lin Li not only has a loud voice, but her hearing ability was also astonishingly acute. Even though An Ran doesn’t feel like her voice was not at all loud, even with the distance from her cellphone, nothing escapes from Lin Li’s ears.

An Ran was ashamed, but knowing that Lin Li is just starting to begin, she can only put on a smile, and follow along, “Yes yes yes, whatever you say.” 

“Hmph!” Lin Li coldly snorts. But seeing how An Ran has admitted defeat too many times, her rage from before has waned a lot. She overlooks the fact that she hung up on her, and asks, “You said something about a certificate, what certificate? A library certificate or graduation certificate?”

An Ran looks at the dazzling red marriage certificate in her hand, takes a big gulp, and says, “Not a library certificate nor a graduation certificate… Lin Li, I… I got married. Just a while I got a marriage certificate.”

The other line suddenly went silent. The peacefulness frightened An Ran. She really thought that Lin Li would blow her head off.

“Gu An Ran, where in the world are you right now!” a angry voice suddenly explodes, nearly deafening An Ran. She then hears Cheng Xiang, seemingly calming down Lin Li, saying that she is giving too much misgivings to the child, then hangs up the phone, leaving behind a ‘du du du’. She’s not too worried about Lin Li, because she knows that Cheng Xiang will take good care of her.

An Ran sighs, puts her phone in her bag, and looks at the marriage certificate once again. She stays absentminded for a good while, and finally puts it into her bag. By the time she got back to the company, it was already 3 o’clock. She didn’t get to sit down for long, when the director calls in. She allows herself to lie down. When she came out of the director’s office, she was carrying out a tall stack of data and documents. They said that recently the city was preparing to establish a large-scale composite building. This time it will be publicly supported by the masses to invite bids, and of course, the company intends to take charge of this case. 

She closes her eyes and leans her head back on the leather chair. She uses both hands to press on her temples, gently massaging it. Suddenly, the cellphone on her desk rings. She squeezes her eyes closed, and blindly fumbles about until she finds her cellphone. She slides the answer button, and weakly says, “Hello….”

“Are you done work?” An unfamiliar yet somewhat familiar voice asks. An Ran opens her eyes in shock, and looks at her at the screen of her cellphone—‘Su Yi Cheng’. She was slightly shocked for a second, and recovers. Somewhat cautiously, and somewhat unnaturally, she asks, “Is something up?”

“Come home with me tonight, I want you to meet my mom and dad.” Su Yi Cheng says.

“Eh…  It’s my mom’s birthday today, we’ve already reserved a table to eat out as a family,” answers An Ran. Actually, hearing that she will have to meet his parents, no matter what she still hasn’t been able to adapt to the situation that she’s in right now. The main point has changed too quickly; just this morning she was still an unmarried old leftover woman. In a blink of an eye she rose to the ranks of a married woman.

“Oh, I see…” Su Yi Cheng drags out the last vowel.

An Ran nods. Out of the blue, she decides to separate from the phone, immediately making a sound, “Urgh…”

A thought comes to her, she says, “That… Do you have time tomorrow? I, I think we should discuss this over?”

“I have to make a business trip tomorrow. Let’s discuss it in the evening. I just remembered something, so how about this. After work wait for me at the company entrance, I’ll pick you up,” having said this, he hangs up, not even giving a chance for An Ran to open her mouth.

An Ran stares in shock, she can’t help but have some doubtful thoughts. Pick her up? He knows where she works?
