First Marriage Then Love 《先婚厚爱》Chapter 45 Translation

045. The hickey on the neck 2

And it was only today that An Ran found out that Su Yi Cheng has a habit of getting up early to exercise, and this habit is a result of his military upbringing since childhood, as a result of being born into a household of soldiers. Ever since he was a child, Su Yi Cheng would, with his grandfather and father, go out for morning exercises ‘drill training’, so much that even after all these years, there is no need for his father’s compulsive attitude. This habit has already been cultivated, and continues to persevere.

After breakfast, due to it being a work day, Su Yi Cheng drives An Ran towards the downtown area.

In the car, An Ran was feeling that during breakfast earlier, everyone was looking at her strangely, as if wanting to laugh but couldn’t make a sound.

Su Yi Cheng sees that his passenger is wrinkling her eyebrows pondering over something, and once again looks at her snow white neck that has some of his own imprints left behind from last night. The corner of his mouth rises into a bigger smile.

Apparently sensing his gaze, An Ran turns around, to see him wearing a smile on his face. She can’t help but be suspicious, and asks, “What are you smiling about?” Saying that, she touches her face. Nothing seems to be on her face.

Su Yi Cheng just smiles, turns his head and looks serious as he concentrates on the road in front of him, only saying, “If you’re still tired you can go ahead and sleep a bit, I’ll tell you when we’re there.”

Hearing that, An Ran actually was still a bit tired. She was tossed around by him for the entire night and didn’t get that much time to sleep. Thinking about it, they’re still about an hour away, even if she stayed awake and the two don’t speak then it would make the ride a bit awkward and weird. At least if she went to sleep she wouldn’t have to worry about whether or not it’ll be awkward.

Thinking in that line, An Ran leans back, slowly shutting her eyes.

The vehicle slowly comes to a stop in front of the entrance of An Ran’s company. Looking at the figure leaning back and dozing off beside him, his heart actually has this inexplicable sense of satisfaction.

He looks at his watch, it’s 8:50. He knows that if he doesn’t wake her up she’d be late. Seeing her sleeping so soundly Su Yi Cheng suddenly felt regretful, that perhaps he had demanded too much. Two continuous nights, it really is quite tiring for her. But with a heart of jade (T/N: literally is jade but I’m guessing it’s like our equivalent of ‘heart of gold’) she really acquiesced his apparently demanding will. He doesn’t feel that he is a noble man, but at least enough of one that his heart isn’t evil. However he used to believe in his own ability to control himself, at the very least he wouldn’t be thrown left and right by his desire. But every time he embraces her, the longing in his body actually is so pressing, as if he has turned back into that impulsive young boy, satisfied by rampaging around.

Thinking about that, Su Yi Cheng couldn’t help but laugh.

His laugh woke up An Ran who was sleeping soundly. She bewilderedly opens her eyes, sees the familiar building outside, and gracefully lets out a yawn, asking, “We’re here?”

Su Yi Cheng laughs and nods. Seeing her dazed state of just being woken up, he only felt that it was adorable.

An Ran nods, rubbing her sore eyes. “Then I’m going to go first.” Saying that, she reaches out to open to door.

“An Ran.”

As she was holding the handle Su Yi Cheng suddenly calls out from behind her. An Ran turns her head, confused, and then turns her body, only to see him lean over, his lips precisely covering her’s, a hot kiss that can suffocate a person, hard and fast. The kiss was so ardent it didn’t even give An Ran a chance to prepare for it.

Not knowing how much time had passed, when An Ran was feeling out of breath from the kiss, Su Yi Cheng finally releases her, embracing her and caressing her back, being tenderly.

An Ran catches her breath in his embrace, but also greedily enjoying the incomparable tranquility and ease of being in his embrace.

“An Ran.” As Su Yi Cheng is hugging her, one arm is around her, while another arm is stroking her snow-white neck.

“En.” An Ran answers. Because he is stroking her neck it suddenly became ticklish, and she can’t help but let out a giggle, “Hehe, it’s ticklish.”

Su Yi Cheng also laughs, but doesn’t immediately release her, just says, “Do you still have that scarf from yesterday?”

“Yeah, it’s in my bag.” An Ran becomes puzzled, although she doesn’t know why he was asking about that, but she still replied truthfully.

Su Yi Cheng releases her, takes the bag that she had put aside, opens it, and takes out yesterday’s scarf from the bag. Then he places it on his lap and folds it, turning his body and wraps it around her snow-white neck, and makes a sloppy-looking bow. Then he looks at her for a while, nodding his head, and says in a low voice, “Now you can’t see it.”

An Ran blanks, then immediately reacts to the meaning behind his words, and she can’t help but bulge her eyes out, “You-you-you-you’re saying that I have hickeys on my neck?”

Su Yi Cheng looks at her, but doesn’t say anything, and just laughs.

“Aiyah, why didn’t you say so earlier!” An Ran’s face blazes up, and only now does she understand her mother-in-law’s ambiguous smile from this morning. Dreading that everyone had seen it, she thinks about it, and can’t help but complain to him, “It’s all your fault, everyone saw it.”

“It’s fine, we’re all family. Mother and everyone else won’t laugh at you.” Su Yi Cheng says as he laughs.

“They’re already laughing at me.” An Ran grumbles. She takes out a compact mirror from her bag, and was about to take the scarf off to see how bad it was.

Su Yi Cheng catches her hand, raising it and turning to look at her wristwatch, and says, “No need to look, it’s 8:58, you should head up, or else you’ll be late.”

“Ah.” An Ran screams, “Why didn’t you say so earlier!” Saying that, she quickly grabs her bag and immediately opens the door and runs off.

In the car, Su Yi Cheng looks at her from behind for a while and couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head. Apparently he’s gotten worse, surprisingly he really likes to see her so frantic like this.

Just as Su Yi Cheng was about to start the car to leave, the cellphone in his briefcase rings at this time. It was Ye Zi Wen’s number, the brat who flew to Europe last week for vacation. Now that he’s calling, it appears that he’s back.

“Yes?”

“Ah Cheng, come drink with me tonight.” Ye Zi Wen says in lightning speed.

“Can’t.” Su Yi Cheng firmly declines. Things are different now, tonight An Ran will be home.

“Uh.” Ye Zi Wen was surprised, unable to come up with a reply. Because of his status, it was inconvenient to go to a nightclub or even a bar, so coming over to his place to drink was a common thing. “Why?”

“Inconvenient.” Su Yi Cheng says concisely.

“Is there something?” Yi Zi Wen gets the rough idea of what’s happening from listening to him.

“Yeah.” Su Yi Cheng answers, not denying it.

“Haha, baloney. Bring it out for us brothers to see.” Ye Zi Wen laughs out loud. Ever since Bai Ran, over the past few years he’s never heard him talk about his feelings. If it weren’t for the fact that he’s known him since childhood, practically growing up together and going through thick and thin, he all wouldn’t help but be sceptical over his disposition because of the shock from that time and had perhaps changed.

“Another day. I have to ask her first.” Su Yi Cheng laughs.

“Ah Cheng, the more you’re like this to me the more I’m curious about what kind of woman this is.” Leaving a person in suspense is actually an immoral thing.

“Hehe.” Su Yi Cheng simply laughs. Suddenly remembering something, he says, “Oh right, Zi Wen, about the Jing yuan house can you help me embellish the design another day, the sooner the better.” That house is a bit too small now, and according to the nature of An Ran’s job, it’s only right that he help her get a studio.

“Ah Cheng, I’ve only been in Europe for 2 weeks right?” Yi Zi Wen couldn’t help but wonder if he’d been away for too long, otherwise how could things change this quickly!

"Hehe, alright, I’ll tell you another day. I have to hurry back to the committee, still have a meeting this morning." Saying that, Su Yi Cheng ends the call, and starts the car to leave.

“Knock knock…..” Someone suddenly knocks on the window. He turns, only to see a middle aged man standing outside. If he remembers correctly, this man is Jing Cheng building’s head architect, An Ran’s direct superior, Huang De Xing.

First Marriage Then Love 《先婚厚爱》Chapter 44 Translation

044. The hickey on the neck 1

While An Ran was finished with washing and came out changed into his white shirt. Su Yi Cheng was standing at the bookshelf reading something. He hears the bathroom door open, and turns his head, only to see An Ran wearing his white shirt, her two slender legs standing perfectly straight, her small face carrying the delicate blush of after-shower. Su Yi Cheng can’t help but look on foolishly. He had heard that when a woman wears a man’s shirt she is the sexiest, the prettiest. So it wasn’t fake news, all of it was real.

Being looked at like that made An Ran feel embarrassed, not daring to look at him, and only says a few words, “I’m done. You can go wash up.” Then in an instant she buries herself into the bed, pulling the blanket and wrapping it around her, only leaving behind a pair of large blinking eyes.

Su Yi Cheng finds her action both funny and in a good mood, contrary to the thief that she is.

Seeing that he is still fixed on her, An Ran swallows nervously, just says, “I, I’m kinda tired, first, going to sleep first, night.” After she finished speaking she immediately covers her head with the quilt.

Su Yi Cheng shakes his head laughing, then turns around to the armoire and takes out some pyjamas to change into, then goes into the bathroom right after. Underneath with the quilt wrapped around her body as a hiding space, she counts sheep. One sheep, two sheep, three sheep……

When she counted up to 325 sheep the door to the bathroom opens. Su Yi Cheng drags his steps and comes out, and An Ran still hasn’t fallen asleep. Actually she isn’t even the least bit sleepy, her eyes were still wide opened.

Su Yi Cheng looks over at the nest of dumpling on the bed, finding it a bit funny and felt helpless. They were husband and wife, going through last night, do they still need to be this way?

He lifts the quilt to go to bed, only to see the person beside him lying motionlessly. Su Yi Cheng shakes his head still finding it funny, turns off the lamp on the bedside and lies down beside her.

In the dark, underneath the quilt, Su Yi Cheng familiarly reaches out and gently brings her to his chest.

An Ran appears stiff, closing her eyes tightly, as if she had already fallen asleep.

Su Yi Cheng holds back a smile, embracing her and lying down properly. It's only her that's pretending that stiff-like-a-corpse position isn't tiring, but to him it looks like it is quite tiring. As a result he comes up with a prank in his mind. He reaches out evilly, wandering over her body. He can even clearly sense that because of his hand her body can’t help but become even stiffer.

Seeing that she still doesn’t intend to open her eyes and say that she’s still awake, Su Yi Cheng, with that evil hand, slowly explores. At first he simply wanted to play a prank to tease her, but as his hands are exploring her silky and satin-like skin, his own body is also slowly getting a reaction. Thinking about last night, his breathing quickly tightens.

“An Ran…..” Su Yi Cheng’s voice from behind is already a bit husky. Unsatisfied with just exploring with his hands, he leaves a soft kiss behind her ear, then quietly asks into her ears, “Are you seducing me?”

“No.” An Ran unconsciously shakes her head. Seducing him, how could that be! And now she’s completely forgotten that she should have already fallen asleep.

Su Yi Cheng chuckles, softly sucking on her ear, his hands still exploring, “Weren’t you sleeping?”

“Uh.” An Ran blanks, and only after a while does she come up with something herself to respond to that, just shyly saying, “I, I was about to fall asleep, but, but you, you being like that woke me up.”

Su Yi Cheng’s laugh resonates in his chest, just feeling that this figure in his embrace is just so cute. Suddenly turning over, he presses down on her. In the dark the pair of bright, clear dark eyes stare at her, not blinking. The corner of his mouth rises up to entice people, and asks, “Since you’re up then, don’t you wanna do some exercise together?”

He's speaking as if he hadn’t eaten pork before, furthermore hadn’t even seen a pig run... Besides, last night they’d already eaten ‘pork’, so An Ran naturally knows what his so-called exercises is referring to.

Frightened, she replies by shaking her head, “I-I-I’m kinda tired.”

Su Yi Cheng looks at her and laughs. He lowers his head to move closer to her ears, whispering, “Then you don’t have to move, I’ll do the moving.”

“I---Wu---“ Su Yi Cheng doesn’t even give her a chance to open her mouth. Taking advantage of the moment she opened her mouth, in rapid speed he blocks her mouth, using the most primitive method.

While a person was in a deep slumber and was woken up by someone is the most dreadful kind of experience. Jun Qu courtyard has morning exercises every day, so the sound of the bell rings at 5 am sharp, and every corner of the courtyard could hear it nice and clear. An Ran only felt that she had just closed her eyes, and then this bell started to ring, bringing her back to her childhood. During school, the bell that indicated class was starting was also like that, really ear-splitting, really rouses people’s spirit.

She doesn’t know what time she fell asleep last night, just knows that it won’t do that she’s tired, lying motionlessly, she allows Su Yi Cheng to hug her. Then he goes to the bathroom to wash up. Having no resistance whatsoever, she closes her eyes in a daze and falls back to sleep, no need to count, and no need to count sheep.

Awoken by the stroke of the bell, An Ran dazedly pushes herself to sit up on the bed, her eyes still closed, just asking, “What’s, what’s going on? What happened?” Su Yi Cheng reaches out and hugs her, just whispering into her ears, “It’s nothing, keep on sleeping. It’s still early.”

An Ran was truly tired, upon leaning against him that she could fall asleep.

Su Yi Cheng looks at her sleeping eyes, lowering his head and leaves light kisses on her forehead. Then he turns and puts her down on the bed, and grabs a pair of workout outfits from the armoire to change into, then turns around and leaves the room.

By the time An Ran woke up again it was exactly 7 am. The sounds of commands from outside permeates inside. She looks at the other side of the bed that had already gone cold, vaguely remembering that he had told her it was still early, but other than that she doesn’t have an impression of anything else. She opens her eyes and stares at the light on the ceiling. Then she remembers that she isn’t in Su Yi Cheng’s apartment in the city.

She grabs the cellphone on the bedside and looks at the time. It was exactly 7 am. This morning she still has to make a trip to the construction site. To get there from downtown should take about an hour, so, besides getting herself ready, she doesn’t have much time at all.

Thinking of that, An Ran quickly sets into motion and washes up. Doing that movement, her entire body seemed as if her muscles were being wrung and pinched, reminding her of last night’s craziness. Her tiny face suddenly flushes red.

“Screw you Su Yi Cheng.” She curses him in a huff, finally dragging her incredibly aching body into the bathroom to change.

When she came out of the room and into the lounge the house’s maid at that time was arranging bowls and chopsticks. Qin Yun was moving things about in the kitchen for breakfast. Upon seeing that, An Ran quickly rushes forward to lend a hand, bringing out the side dishes.

Qin Yun assumed that it was the house’s maid, so she asks her to take the bowl of rice and set it out. An Ran responds, and goes ahead to set up the congee. Qin Yun heard that the voice was weird, so she turns her head to see An Ran’s smiling face cheerily standing there.

“An Ran, why are you up so early.” Qin Yun pulls on her hand as she speaks, “Ah, is it because you’re not used to the courtyard, the noises from the morning exercises must have woken you up.”

An Ran shakes her head, “Not at all, I still have to head to work early morning, so I got up early.”

Qin Yun nods, suddenly catching a glimpse of the faint red marks on her neck. She looks at her, giving her an ambiguous smile.

First Marriage Then Love 《先婚厚爱》Chapter 42 Translation

042. Meeting the in-laws

“That must be Ah Cheng and An Ran.”

Qin Yun was smiling as she emerges from the courtyard, her eyes immediately fixing on An Ran, continuously nodding her head. The more she sees her the more she likes her.

An Ran takes a glance at Su Yi Cheng, turning around, and with a hint of awkwardness she calls out to Qin Yun, “Mother.”

Hearing An Ran call her mother, Qin Yun naturally bursts with joy. She has been longing for a daughter-in-law for so many years, now, at last the longing has finally ended. Her face could not conceal her smile, she immediately nods and says, “Good*, very good*.”

*t/n: guai – kind of like, good girl/boy.. when you’re praising a child. Literally means obedient.

An Ran was a bit embarrassed. After finishing elementary school it seems like her parents and teachers stopped using guai in their speech.

Now being praised this way by someone, her heart couldn’t name this kind of feeling. Awkward and not knowing what to do, what to say, she can only keep a stiff smile on her face.

Qin Yun, delighted, holds onto her [An Ran’s] hands. She helps her push aside a stray hair dangling down on her forehead, and asks with worry, “Being in a car for that long, are you tired?”

“No, not tired.” An Ran shakes her head, her expression earnest.

Qin Yun observes her, thinking to herself that this girl is simple and honest, very much to her taste. This son of her’s, although had tied the knot too suddenly, but the person he choose was not bad.

Su Yi Cheng takes the health products sitting in the back seat and An Ran’s gifts. He sees An Ran standing in front of him and his mother, putting a smile to his face.

“Mom, is that brother and sister-in-law?” Su Yi Jiao wears a ponytail, her fair face wearing light makeup. A youthful face appears out from behind that red wood door. She’s wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans, looking completely different from the glamorous and mature beauty of that day. Upon seeing An Ran and her mother at the door, she laughs as she says, “Mom, what are you doing keeping sister-in-law at the door? Hurry and come in.”

“Right right right.” It was then that Qin Yun responds. “Look at me, all muddled from happiness. Come come come, An Ran, hurry in with mom. Your dad and grandfather are all waiting for you.” As she speaks she pulls on An Ran into the courtyard.

Su Yi Cheng carries the stuff and follows from behind. When he passes the gate, he was patted on the shoulder by Su Yi Jiao who was standing by the gate, her eyes following An Ran and her mother who were in front. She closes in by Su Yi Cheng’s ear and says, “Ge, you have good eyes.”

Su Yi Cheng laughs heartily and pats her back, “Impudent.”

Su Yi Jiao sticks her tongue out mischievously, trotting forward, following after mother and An Ran.

The courtyard was reminiscent of historical Beijing’s courtyard house (siheyuan), a small garden at the center, all kinds of flowers and plants being grown. An Ran hasn’t done research on these stuff before, so she doesn’t know much of the different varieties of floriculture. A couple of rooms surround the garden. Studios, guest rooms, kitchen, bedrooms, etc.

Directly facing the garden is the guest room, and at this moment Su Wen Qing and Su Han Nian were sitting upright on the sofa in the living room. Upon seeing Su Yi Cheng and An Ran coming in, a smile was brought to their face as soon as they saw them.

An Ran felt uneasy. She has no experience in this area, so at this moment she doesn’t even know what she should do. She hopelessly turns to look at Su Yi Cheng, the expression in her eyes looking like they’re crying for help.

Su Yi Cheng chuckles as he looks at her, stepping forward as he leads her by the hand, holding her hand tightly.

Hand being held by him, An Ran’s franticly helpless heart was settled down at once. She squeezes his hand tightly.

Su Yi Cheng glances at her, his eyes full of tenderness. He turns to look at Su Han Nian and Su Wen Qing, and starts to say, “Grandpa (yeye), dad, this is my wife, Gu An Ran.” He turns back to An Ran and says, “An Ran, greet them.”

An Ran quickly nods her head, calling out earnestly, “Grandpa, dad, mom, Yi Jiao, h-hi everybody.” Because her hand was tensing up, Su Yi Cheng squeezes her hand even more.

Su Yi Cheng looks at her smiling, his thumb rubbing against her hand, as if telling her he’s there with her, and that there’s no need to worry.

Grandpa Su and Su Han Nian look at An Ran, smiles and nods, but their expressions were a little strange. Coming from a military background, usually they are accustomed to the tough style. Acting gentle was a bit unnatural.

Although Su Han Nian was already 70 sum years old, but he is a soldier, and even though he has already retired from his position, he still insists on joining everyone with morning drills, so his whole person appears to still be in high energy.

The Su Wen Qing standing beside him wears scholarly spectacles, faintly smiling at An Ran and nods. Su Yi Cheng really resembles Su Wen Qing, his gentleness and scholarly-ness is also like his.

Su Yi Cheng passes the stuff in his hands for An Ran to carry, hinting her to take it and hand it out to everyone.

An Ran reacts, quickly taking it, and takes out the products that Su Yi Cheng had said to help lower blood sugar and gives it to the grandfather. “My father’s blood sugar is also on the high side. He takes this one and says it’s not too bad, you should give this a try. If it’s good I can get you two of these next time.”

Hearing that, a simple and honest smile creeps up on Su Han Nian’s serious face, thinking to himself, the wife of this grandson is quite to his liking. Ah Cheng this fellow’s eyes are really quite good. At the very least she is much better than the others that his mother had mentioned.

He fishes out the hongbao that he had prepared earlier, handing it over to An Ran. “Guai, from now on get along well with Ah Cheng.”

An Ran blanks, not really getting the situation. She turns to look at Su Yi Cheng.

Su Yi Cheng laughs, and nods at her. “This is from grandpa. Just accept it.”

“Thank you grandpa.” An Ran then accepts it with both hands.

After properly accepting grandpa Su’s hongbao, An Ran gives the lowering blood pressure product to Su baba, saying, “Dad, I heard from Yi Cheng that your blood pressure is a bit high. I asked about this and they said that this product is effective in lowering blood pressure. This is for you to try.”

“An Ran is really considerate,” Su Han Nian smiles warmly, and nods, accepting the health product in An Ran’s hand, then passes on his hongbao that he had prepared earlier. “From now on we’re all one family, no need to be so polite.”

An Ran nods and accepts it, saying, “Yes. Thank you dad.” Then she takes the scarves she bought yesterday and this noon and presents it to Qin Yun and Su Yi Jiao, “I’m not too sure what I should get, so I asked some friends and they all said that it’s the season to wear nice scarves, so I wanted to give mother and Yi Jiao separate ones and bought two pieces, but I’m not sure if you guys will like it or not.”

“Haha, I like it, I like it, of course I like it. Aiya, I told you my daughter-in-law was great, see how she thinks of me, unlike my Yi Jiao, just not pissing me off makes her good.” Qin Yun says as she giddily grasps An Ran’s hands. This daughter-in-law of her’s, she truly likes her the more she sees her.

“Mom, clearly now that you have a daughter-in-law you don’t need a daughter anymore. I won’t come back anymore then,” Su Yi Jiao pretends to be peeved.

Qin Yun jokingly scolds her, “You ah, if the next time you don’t find a partner and present him to me then really don’t come back. To me you coming back will just cause me annoyance."

“Aiya, dad, look at mom, is there ever a day that she doesn’t think of setting me up.” Su Yi Jiao hugs Su Wen Qing’s arm like a spoiled child, and turns to Su Han Nian and says, “Grandpa, you need to give me justice. Everyone wants to be by your side, see how my mom is trying to drive me away.”

“You devil girl.” Su Han Nian pampers her and pats his granddaughter’s forehead. On his solemn face a rare smile hangs on to it, and could only tease this treasured granddaughter in this way.

Su Wen Qing glances at his daughter, and turns to face Qin Yun, “Alright, we’re all present, let’s start serving the food.”

First Marriage Then Love 《先婚厚爱》Chapter 41 Translation

041. Jun Qu compound/ courtyard

T/N: Jun Qu is actually a military district... Until now I thought it was just a name but nope lol. My bad.

“Sorry.” An Ran quickly apologizes. She raises her head only to see the elegant, long hair of the other person, her fair skin carrying the classic scent of a beautiful woman.

The classic beauty that she had bumped into just smiles at An Ran and shakes her head, passing An Ran as she enters the washroom directly.

An Ran doesn’t mind too much about it, and leaves the washroom, directly heading towards yesterday’s store.

By the time Su Yi Cheng came over to pick up An Ran, An Ran was still very nervous about the dinner this evening. She was so tense and nervous about it that she had forgotten about this morning’s worry about the awkwardness the two would have when they meet again after last night.

The couple return to the apartment first to get the health products and the scarf that An Ran had bought yesterday. In the washroom, An Ran fixes up her make-up simply, then stands in front of the mirror to examine herself for a while longer.

Su Yi Cheng waited in the living room for a while, but doesn’t see An Ran come out, so he opens the door to come in, only to see her staring at the mirror with a blank expression, her brows wrinkled.

“What’s up?” Su Yi Cheng asks.

An Ran turns, looks at Su Yi Cheng, and mumbles, “Tell me, should I change to another set of clothes? Also, is my hair messy?” If she had known earlier she would have fixed her hair first, but going to the mall had used up all of her break time. She thought about fixing it, but hadn’t the time.

Su Yi Cheng smiles, just takes her hand, and lowers his head to place a kiss on her lips. Wandering, when she was still unguarded he loquaciously explores her mouth. Tickling her, winding her to join him in the dance. For a while An Ran couldn’t react. When she could, she then intended to push him, but Su Yi Cheng was already one step ahead and releases her.

An Ran covers her mouth, face blushing, not daring to look at him. Su Yi Cheng was aroused by her shy appearance and smiles, pulling her hand, not saying anything. He simply leads her out the door.

In the car, An Ran was still nervous, but because of the kiss before she doesn’t dare to look at Su Yi Cheng, only clenching her fingers, turning her head to look out the window. But half an hour into the ride, and seeing that the car isn’t going to stop for a while, An Ran can’t help but turn her head and ask, “Do your parents live really far?”

“Your parents!” Su Yi Cheng raises his brows, turning to look at An Ran, asking, “What did you just say?”

“It’s been a while and we’re still not there, do your parents live far?” An Ran innocently asks him again.

Su Yi Cheng looks at her incredulously, asking, “Just my parents?”

An Ran turns red, sticking her tongue out, and says with a bit of ill-intention, “I, I’m still not used to this.”

Su Yi Cheng nods, and doesn’t blame her intention, reminding her, “But when we get home, just remember not to make the same mistake.”

“Okay.” An Ran nods eagerly. This is her most important duty, and she will play her role well.

Su Yi Cheng glances her amusedly, then immediately turns back to face the road in front of him, adding, “Grandpa was originally Jun Qu’s commanding officer, but now he’s already retired, and now dad is Jun Qu’s political commissar. So now they all live at Jun Qu courtyard. The courtyard is just a short distance away from the city center. There’s still maybe about 20 more minutes, if you’re tired, just lie down to rest, when we’re there I’ll call you.”

His speech made An Ran hard to digest it, so she stares at him for a while, finally muttering, “I never knew your family background was so illustrious.” She totally didn’t expect that her own husband was unexpectedly right now’s most fashionable Hong generation.

“At that time you didn’t ask clearly and just married into my family. Now it’s too late to regret it.”

An Ran looks at him, not listening to his words, just asking, “Su Yi Cheng, does your family not attach importance on status?”

Su Yi Cheng glances at her. Her mind’s matters and worries are all obviously written on her face. He stops the car at the curb, looks at her seriously, and asks, “An Ran, what are you worried about?”

An Ran looks at him stunned, not saying anything. Even though she was born as a commoner, but she also knows that there are some rich and powerful families that place great importance on family status. If they were to check appropriate matches, she is 100% unmatchable to Su Yi Cheng. If the Su family does care about family status, then what should she do? Divorce? An Ran doesn’t know, but in her mind she can’t help but have some regrets, regret that she had married too hastily.

“Is my mother the kind of person that cares about family status?” Su Yi Cheng asks.

An Ran was stunned, immediately shaking her head. At that moment she recalls that she had met Qin Yun days earlier, and how her friendly manner was completely unlike someone who would care about what status she has or what family background she’s from. Contrary to expectation she truly isn’t the kind that places importance on family status.

“Then what are you so worried about?” Su Yi Cheng can’t help but find it funny, this girl seems to always consider those trivial matters. In fact if they were to go back in time, his mother perhaps would pay careful attention to how well matched the families are socially, but not now. She’s only afraid that she herself wouldn’t match to the standards of a daughter-in-law. As long as his partner’s family background is clean, she can only worry about being happy or being late.

“Really don’t mind?” An Ran asks, still unrelieved. In fact she herself doesn’t expect much, it’s just that when the time comes for the two families to meet, she doesn’t wish that because of that reason, that her own parents would be looked down on or something.

Su Yi Cheng strokes her head as if spoiling a child, turns around and starts the car to continue the journey. Why not just let her see herself in a moment, his grandfather and parents, are not all those type of superficial people, comparing family statuses upon meeting. What they care about most is character.

The car slowly enters a lofty and dignified gate, below the gate an orderly row of soldiers with firearms stand in position, not a sideway glance, standing perfectly looking straight ahead. They recognize Su Yi Cheng’s car, who would come back every month, frequently, and so they were familiar with him, thus there was no need to register and interrogate the visitor.

An Ran, a little nervous, was pursing her lips tightly, looking at the abundance of trees standing between the cyan-brick houses, and each of the red-wood doors in front, standing perfectly straight and army orderly. An Ran, unaware that she was feeling a sense of familiarity, like when she was a child she had gotten something wrong, and was called out by the teacher and had to stand still outside as punishment.

Su Yi Cheng stops in front of his family’s red-wood front door, salutes, and smiles as he advances to open the door. Upon seeing Su Yi Cheng, he calls out with a clear and bright voice, “Ah Cheng ge.” Seeing An Ran getting off the car beside him, still with a big smile and a bright voice he calls out, “Sao zi (Sis-in-law).”

“Xiao Zhang.” Su Yi Cheng smiles and nods at him, considering that to be a greeting.

Xiao Zhang’s gaze, standing at attention, fixes on An Ran, thinking to himself, this Ah Cheng ge’s wife is truly pretty, fresh. What the Jun Qu troop is lacking the most is women. It was good that he was stationed inside the Jun Qu courtyard, at least he could still see women. Thinking about his comrades that were stationed inside the base were truly bitter, not being able to see even one woman in several years. However those that visit the courtyard are only few, and they were all the wives of senior officials, having a few years on him. Besides Miss Su Yi Jiao who is the most frequent visitor, however he has seen her so many times that he was unaffected now. Ah Cheng ge’s wife and Miss Su Yi Jiao are different. Refined and gentle, fair and clear, truly beautiful.

An Ran was frozen, was made a bit uneasy by the environment. Seeing the salute she could only smile awkwardly, unsure of what she should say.

Su Yi Cheng can see An Ran’s awkwardness, and was about to say something to her. The two haven’t even been seen yet, but Qin Yun who was still inside had already called out to them. “Is that Ah Cheng and An Ran?”
