At this time, the coffee shop had practically no patrons, as there were more people packing up and leaving. But those who sat down to have a drink were only An Ran and Mo Fei.
An Ran sits beside the window, her head turned to watch the pedestrians on the street. There was a leisurely group, some who were running as if they were flying, each and every person had different expressions on their face.
“Excuse me, what can I get for you?” The waitress came holding a menu, as well as two cups of water.
Mo Fei nods, orders black coffee, and gets An Ran royal milk tea. When the waitress wrote down the orders and was about take the menu back, An Ran calls out, “Wait.”
Wearing a white shirt and black bag, the waitress with the smiley face logo on her chest turns around, her face wearing a smile much like the one on her chest, asking, “Is there anything else you’d like?”
“Change the royal milk tea to a latte.” An Ran says.
“Sure.” The waitress nods smiling, and repeats the order again, “So that’s one black coffee and a latte?”
An Ran nods, confirming that what she had just said was correct.
“We will serve it as soon as it’s ready.” The waitress leaves smiling.
An Ran turns her head towards the window once again, and does not look at him.
“You used to like to drink royal milk tea, and said that coffee was bitter. No matter how much sugar and milk you put in it you still couldn’t get rid of the bitterness.” Mo Fei looks at her, saying it slowly.
An Ran turns her head, looking at him, and only says, “There isn’t anyone who stays at the same place forever. For example, work, over time one would get promoted. Like personal preferences, over time it would also change. What was favoured in the past perhaps isn’t favoured anymore. Once again, for example, feelings. Over time, it will turn indifferent.”
Mo Fei only feels a pain to his heart, hurting so much that he almost can’t breathe! He’s aware of what her intentions are from that speech, but he doesn’t want to believe it. Looking into her eyes, one line at a time, he says earnestly, “There are some things that will never change. What used to be true in the past, will still be true now!”
An Ran avoids his gaze, looking down at the cup of water on the table, and taking a sip of it. Even if she loves him, what’s the point. In the end, you can’t deny reality. This argument, she’s used up 6 years to learn it completely. Now she’s learning to let go, even if it’s not right away, at least, bit by bit, it will be forgotten.
The waitress with the smiley uniform brought their coffee over, then wearing a smile, she retreats from them.
Mo Fei drinks a mouthful of the coffee, the bitterness reflects his mood right now. He knows that the choice that he made that time had hurt her, but she should know, these past six years how he wanted to come back, every night, he couldn’t stop longing for her.
The silence made An Ran restless. She looks at her watch, and impatiently says, “Say whatever you want to say, I still need to get back to work.”
Mo Fei stares at her. He suddenly reaches out and holds her hand, grabbing it tightly.
“L-let go.” She wanted to pull back her hand with all her strength, but he was holding it tightly. An Ran was annoyed. “Mo Fei, you better let go!”
Mo Fei doesn’t hear her ‘let go’s’ but instead holds it even tighter. He leans towards her, saying, "Give me 6 months, just give me another 6 months!”
“Let go.” An Ran struggles.
“An Ran, I love you. I’ve only loved you in my life, really! I just need half a year, just another 6 months is enough, we can be together again okay?” Mo Fei says as he grabs her hand. In fact, according to his plan, it was a little too early to let her know, but that man from yesterday made him scared. He was afraid, if he didn’t say it, then he really would be too late.
An Ran looks at him in shock, and only asks, “What do you mean?” Half a year, be together, did he forget that he has a wife at home?
“Don’t worry about it. I believe that you still love me. Just wait for me for half a year, after that we can be together again, just like six years ago.”
“Be together again?” An Ran sneers, only feeling that this man in front of her is a stranger. “What status? Did you forget that you still have a wife at home? You want me to become a mistress when the time comes?”
“No, no.” Mo Fei denies. How could he make her a mistress, she’s the only woman he’s ever loved, how could he willingly wrong her with that shameful status.
“No? Then you’re planning to divorce Tong Xiao Jie? Then I would be the other woman separating you two?” An Ran looks at him coldly, her tone is cold, without any warmth.
“An Ran, stop deprecating yourself. You already know, you’ve never been the other woman!” That year they were the ones who were in love first. If you were to talk about the other party, then that would be other people, not her.
“Ha!” An Ran sneers. “You were the one who made me look this deprecating.”
“An Ran, I have a pact with her. The pact will be null in half a year. When that time comes, I can divorce her.” Mo Fei says.
An Ran looks at the man before her coldly. When they were together in the past she’d always felt that he was perfect, yet after not seeing him for six years, seeing him again she feels that he’s unfamiliar, where was the shadow from that year. With strength, she pulls her hand out of his grasp, “Mo Fei, you are really selfish. For what reason should I wait for you?”
“An Ran, you still love me, right? These past years, you couldn’t forget our past, right?” He had investigated, these past six years, she hasn’t once mentioned about dating, her life was revolved around work. He knows, her heart is the same as his, she also couldn’t let go of him.
Even if it was like that, could it be that all of this was to give him capital, which, at the time, was suffering? If it was like that, towards the former her who was in love, she felt pity for it.
Seeing her silent, Mo Fei thought that she was in the middle of reasoning with herself. He reaches out, takes her hand and doesn’t let go. In an easy-going tone, he encourages, “An Ran, just wait another half a year for me. Just half a year, okay.”
An Ran closes her eyes, her lips hooking up into a sneer. She opens her eyes again, her eyes much more determined. She shakes her hand off angrily, “I won’t wait for you. Ever since you told me that you were going to marry Tong Xiao Jie, it was the end of us. I don’t care about whatever pact you have with each other, and I don’t care whether or not you guys will divorce six months later. That has nothing to do with me.” She stands up as she says this, grabs her bag from the chair, and says, “Also, please stop looking for me from now on. I’m already married. You being this way will cause trouble for me. I don’t want any misunderstandings with my husband.” After she finishes her speech, she turns around, intending to leave.
“You’re married?” Mo Fei sprints up and blocks her way, looking at her in disbelief. The private investigator’s [information/ data] clearly said that she was unmarried, furthermore she didn’t even have a boyfriend.
“Right.” An Ran nods.
Mo Fei shakes his head. “I don’t believe you.” She was lying to him, he’s sure of it.
“Up to you.” To believe or not is something subjective, she has no control over another’s idealogy. She winds around him and passes him, but her hand was captured by him the next second.
“Was it the man from yesterday?” He speaks into her ears in a low voice.
“Yeah.” An Ran replies; clear-cut, unhesitant.
Mo Fei doesn’t say anything, and only tightens his grasp on her hand.
An Ran was starting to feel pain, she sighs, and coldly says, “Mo Fei, don’t make me hate you.”
Mo Fei grimaces, he closes his eyes painfully, finally letting go of her hand.
With her hand returned, An Ran doesn’t look back, and simply goes straight towards the door.
